Description

STEELY DAN in 1993 had just reunited. The masterpiece sound board recording is now available as an upgraded version. This work includes “August 23, 1993 Saratoga Springs Performance”. This is a stereo soundboard recording. Their “REUNION TOUR 1993” remains as part of the official live album “ALIVE IN AMERICA”, and is also popular as the masterpiece soundboard album “HOUSTON 1993” at our store. What position does this work play in such a situation? Let’s take a look back at the schedule at that time.・June 20: Philadelphia performance ・August 13-21 (8 performances) ・August 23: Saratoga Springs performance ←★This work★ ・August 24-September 1 (7 performances) )・September 3rd: Houston performance ←*“HOUSTON 1993”・September 4th: The Woodlands performance・September 6th: Phoenix performance ←※Official “Book of Liars”・September 7th + 8th (2 performances)・September 10: Irvine performance ←※Official “Green Earrings”・September 11-18 (6 performances)・September 19: Charlotte performance ←※Official “Third World Man”・September 20th-26th (5 performances) This is STEELY DAN in 1993. We toured North America for 35 performances, of which the three songs adopted for “ALIVE IN AMERICA” and “HOUSTON 1993” were performed in the latter half of the tour in September. On the other hand, the Saratoga Springs performance of this work was the 9th concert, which was still in the first half. The sound board has been known for such shows for a long time, but this work is its highest peak. Actually, the last three songs “Countermoon”, “Teahouse on the Tracks”, and “My Old School” are completely missing until the middle of “Third World Man” in the second half of the set. Supplemented with the best audience recording of the same day. It is finished as a full live album. If you are a collector, you may know that the audience recordings of different performances were connected, but this work is a genuine same-day recording. We realized a two-disc set that accurately reproduced the show on that day. Moreover, the complementary sound source is of amazing high quality. There is a change near the end of “Third World Man,” but you won’t notice it unless you’re listening with headphones and wondering, “When is it going to change?” If you listen to it normally, you’ll hear the raw applause at the end of “Third World Man” and you’ll be like, “Huh? When did that happen!?”…or rather, I don’t think the audience would have complemented it if they were silent. It’s super high-quality sound. For those who are familiar with the story, this is a point that will make you go “Wow!”, but for those who are not, it may not be the story that resonates with you. In fact, this complementary point is important only because the quality of the main sound board, which occupies most of the show, is excellent. Its beautiful sound and mix are worthy of being called “completely official grade”, and it cannot easily be compared to the aforementioned “HOUSTON 1993”. Yes, it is one that can never be ignored even now that the super-definitive board that was called “just like an official work” has appeared. Therefore, the show revived with the highest peak sound that can be expected now is a treasure trove of masterpieces unique to the reunion tour. To put it bluntly, the story is very similar to HOUSTON 1993, but since it’s a good opportunity, let’s summarize it here. STEELY DAN (13 songs + α), Can’t Buy a Thrill: Reelin’ in the Years, Ecstasy: Bohisattva/My Old School (★), Liar Katie: Chain Lightning/Black Friday, Fantasy Skyscraper: Green Earrings, Aya (Aja): Josie/Home at Last/Deacon Blues/Peg ・Gaucho: Hey Nineteen/Babylon Sisters/Third World Man (★) ・Medley (The Royal Scam/Bad Sneakers/Aja) ●Others (8 songs) ・Nightfly :I.G.Y./Green Flower Street・Kamachiriad:Tomorrow’s Girls/Countermoon(★)/Teahouse on the Tracks(★)・Walter Becker songs:Book of Liars/The Fall of ’92 ・Warren Barnhart songs:Tuzz’s Shadow *Note: Songs marked with “★” are supplemented with top quality audience recordings. …and it looks like this. A full show that concentrates STEELY DAN’s iron plate, while also interspersing the repertoire of Donald Fagen, Walter Becker, and Warren Barnhart, who participated in the reunion tour. As mentioned above, there is an official live album “ALIVE IN AMERICA”, but more than half of the songs are unlistenable. You can fully experience it with an official sound board and a miraculous audience recording that rivals the best sound. I apologize for repeating myself, but since “HOUSTON 1993” also exists, it is difficult to make it into a press CD. However, I really want to preserve it forever. In the first place, it is nothing short of a miracle that a transcendental audience was left on the same day as the official sound board… This is a full live album that makes you feel that way. Those who are not familiar with underground sound sources will hear nothing but the finest official product, and enthusiasts who are familiar with the common sense of line recording and customer recording will find it so miraculous that they will think, “Well, I probably won’t be able to press it, but this is it.” A masterpiece that will make you say, “This is amazing.” Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, NY, USA 23rd August 1993 STEREO SBD Disc 1 (69:14) 1.
