Description
This is a recording of the concert held at Shinjuku Koseinenkin Hall in Tokyo on April 18th, from the stereo soundboard recording of the radio on-air master, from the 1986 Japan tour. Although it is not complete because it is a broadcast recording with 5 songs in total of 44 minutes, this year he attempted to fuse jazz and classical music, composing “Concerto for Tenor Saxophone and Orchestra”. The following May 18th, at the Tokyo performance, it was premiered with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and part of the performance is also recorded on the DVD “Saxophone Colossus”, and it was a time when he was very active. Here, the performance is by a sextet, and the live performance is full of Rollins’ style, including the familiar “St. Thomas”, and the band also put on a wonderful performance, with the tenor full of singing spirit at the center, until the end. 1. Best Wishes (09:28) 2. Autumn Nocturne (08:04) 3. St. Thomas (08:33) 4. Tenor Madness (06:29) 5. Moritat (11:51) [Live at Shinjuku Kouseinenkin Hall, Tokyo, Japan, 18th April 1986 : Stereo Soundboard Recording] Sonny Rollins – tenor saxophone / Anderson – trombone / Bobby Broom – guitar / Mark Soskin – keyboards / Jerome Harris – bass / Al Foster – drums
