Description

Sonny Fortune, who replaced Dave Liebman in Miles Davis’ band and is known for his virtuoso performances of “Agharta” and “Pangaea,” led his own band on a European tour. This live performance at Copenhagen’s prestigious Montmartre club was beautifully restored from newly discovered broadcast recordings and released as an absolutely thrilling live album. The setlist is different from “Portland 1978,” and a young Tom Browne is featured on trumpet. He is a legendary trumpeter, later known for his “Funky for Jamaica,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1980. This live performance features a series of wickedly cool riffs that would put Woody Shaw to shame. The album closes with the classic “NOMMO,” featured on the album “Awakening,” where Fortune’s alto delivers a fiery performance. Experience Sonny Fortune’s wild and soulful alto to the fullest.
