Description
This is the second release of the ultimate CD title that thoroughly compiles Sly & The Family Stone’s TV broadcasts, radio, and soundboard recordings. It excludes interviews and contains only basic performance parts, making it a collection of live recordings that you can enjoy pure performances. Leslie Uggams Show 1969, which is often not included in compilation CDs, “Hot Fun In The Summertime” immediately after release, the slightly longer “Everyday People”, and Kraft Music Hall 1969 are recorded with better sound quality using excavated footage. The live recording from the Isle of Wight, “I Want To Take You Higher”, is not played. It’s just that the phrase “Higher” in “Music Lover” was misunderstood. That’s why it’s written that way in the setlist. The London recording on September 13, 1970 is a wonderful newly excavated soundboard recording except for the last 3 minutes (still a good soundboard). “Thank You” from the 1970 Dick Cavett Show has been ripped from newly excavated footage and has better sound quality than the existing version. The 1971 Dick Cavett Show “I Want To Take You Higher” has also been remastered. And a video collection DVD is included. This includes not only performances, but also interviews and as much footage as possible. It also includes the song of host Leslie Uggamas. And I’m really happy to see “Hot Fun In The Summertime” and “Everyday People” performed properly by Sly and the others in motion, not as a medley. On the other hand, Kraft Music Hall 1969 was recorded because a better quality video was found. From “Everyday People” and “Everyday People” and “Dance To The Music” and “Hot Fun In The Summertime” to “I Want To Take You Higher”, the songs change rapidly in a medley, making it an entertaining performance. In the first half, they bring the audience up on stage, which reminds me of Prince. Sly in top form, Larry Graham in his black costume, the warrior, is irresistible. And a live video of the peak of his career, a performance in London on September 13, 1970. This is a treasured piece from WDR, but until now the quality of the audio was poor. However, except for the last 3 minutes, there is a wonderful soundboard sound source, and this time it is linked to that and recorded. There are many close-ups, which are very powerful. Sly’s piano judgment and agitation, Larry’s superb bass, and Cynthia’s intense trumpet playing. Some of the performance has been edited, so I can’t say that this video alone is very satisfying, but it is an absolutely necessary material. The members are introduced along with the backstage footage, and the funk-specialized arrangement in “Dance To The Music” is quite central to Larry, and it can be said that it is a bridge-like video that derives from Prince. The last 3 minutes of “I Want To Take You Higer” are a sound without the existing punch (but still a soundboard). And in the 1970 Dick Cavett Show, the coolness of “Thank You” is already agonizing. It is said that Larry Graham invented the slap bass with this song, but the live performance has been unearthed with a video of excellent quality. The image quality has improved, but the sound has also improved, it’s the best. This is a high-quality video without time code, different from “My Music Lover”. The main feature uses video with time code, but the noise that was in “My Music Lover” has been removed (the removal is only for a moment, but the video part is also taken, but it is almost unnatural). The same removal process was also done on the 1971 Dick Cavett Show and Andy Williams Show 1971.
