Description
Among the four kings of thrash, the two core powerhouses, “SLAYER + ANTHRAX”. A powerful live album coupling these two heroes is here. Since the “THE BIG 4” project in 2010, the two have had more opportunities to perform together, but this work is a special one that is different from the others. It is a rare live set of “the same day + the same drummer”. You may suddenly think “???”. Let me explain step by step. [A rare show brought about by bad luck] It all started with the bad luck that struck Charlie Benante in 2012. In February, his mother died of illness, in July he was arrested and taken to court, and he even injured his hands and head. Due to such troubles, he was unable to participate in live performances more and more, and he was also unable to participate in the Australian tour with SLAYER scheduled for February 2013. At that time, John Dette was chosen as a pinch hitter. He also participated in TESTAMENT’s “LIVE AT THE FILLMORE” and was an official member of SLAYER in the mid-90s. He is unknown because he rarely has the opportunity to record, but he is a talented person known to those in the industry. Then, misfortune struck SLAYER next. In February 2013, Dave Lombardo, who was dissatisfied with the business side of things, suddenly refused to tour. He left the band. That February 2013 was the month of the Australian tour. Of course, there is not much time for a drummer who can handle SLAYER’s difficult songs, and there is no time to memorize the songs. So, they set their sights on John Dette, who was to accompany them in ANTHRAX. As mentioned above, he was once an official member of SLAYER and knew the songs, and since they were competing bands on the tour, their schedules were perfect. Dette suddenly ended up playing drums for both ANTHRAX and SLAYER. Here, we will introduce the outline of the Australian tour.・February 23, 2013: Brisbane “SOUNDWAVE 2013” ・February 24, 2013: Sydney “SOUNDWAVE 2013” ・February 25, 2013: Sydney [This work] ・March 1, 2013: Melbourne “SOUNDWAVE 2013” ・March 2, 2013: Adelaide “SOUNDWAVE 2013” ・March 4, 2013: Perth “SOUNDWAVE 2013” Six performances in total. There were two other performances by ANTHRAX alone, but this is the complete double appearance of SLAYER and ANTHRAX. In the long history of the Four Heavenly Kings, there have been several members who have played in two bands, but these six performances were the only ones where the members were “same day and same members”. Of these, the performance on February 25, 2013 in Sydney is included in this work. Most of these were outdoor festivals, “SOUNDWAVE FESTIVAL 2013”, but only “February 25th” was an extra indoor performance called “SIDEWAVE”. [Live album with the best quality] This work is also of excellent quality. In fact, it is a live audience recording with lively applause, but its bold and meaty musical sound is worthy of being called “like a sound board”. The clarity of the venue with almost no acoustics is wonderful, and the thickness of the bass that resonates in the five organs and shakes the six viscera is also amazing. As mentioned above, there were six miracle shows, but it was fortunate that they were indoor performances. It is a live album that will be the best of the six super rare performances. The show depicted with that sound is the wonderful thing that takes your breath away. At the time, Gary Holt and Jonathan Donays were the focus of attention (both were treated as substitutes at the time, and later officially joined), but the surprise was John Dette. Even though it was a huge responsibility to replace the two masters of masters and heroes of heroes, “Benante & Lombard,” Dette showed off his amazing drumming that didn’t make you feel that way. He has no shortage of both hand and foot skills, but the bass drum is especially amazing. When he was a member of SLAYER in the 90s, there was a legend that “all you could hear at a windy outdoor festival was a beautifully synchronized bass drum hit,” and it’s no wonder. Darararararararararara… the grains are beautifully synchronized and fast, so much so that it seems to go on forever. Among them, “Jesus Saves” and “Angel Of Death” are amazing (maybe even better than Paul Bostaph!?!?). With such amazing technique, why is Dette still minor? I can’t believe it at all (I wish ANTHRAX had done “Milk (Ode to Billy)”…). Of course, the sound of this work is so amazing that it is pointed out clearly. It’s great to hear the two kings of the four with a powerful sound, but the legendary member John Dette is added on top. No matter how long the history of thrash is, no matter how wide the world is, there is no other live album as rare and fierce as this one. The quality and rarity are definitely of the permanent preservation press class, but John Dette’s existence is too maniac. That’s why I want as many people as possible to know how amazing Dette is.
