Description

The only stereo soundboard album by John Dette, the third official drummer, is here. Some people may say, “Oh, he’s amazing!” while others may ask, “Who is John?” First, a simple explanation of this person… [The third drummer who became a phantom] John Dette’s resume is extremely luxurious. His band history includes big names such as TESTAMENT, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, ICED EARTH… On the other hand, he has had very few recording opportunities, and his studio works are only IMPELLITTERI, ANIMETAL USA (Tohoho), and EVILDEAD demos. He is still a “phantom drummer” whose representative work is TESTAMENT’s “LIVE AT THE FILLMORE”. Of course, if his skills were poor, he would not be called by such big names. His drumming is top-notch, and it is clear from the fact that he was chosen by SLAYER, who is picky about drummers. He joined in 1996, just after the release of “UNDISPUTED ATTITUDE”. He was the replacement for Paul Bostaph, who left to focus on his solo project. They toured together from 1996 to 1997, and the following year, when they started working on “DIABOLUS IN MUSICA”, Bostaph was fired for a mysterious reason that sounded like a divorce agreement, saying, “His technique is impeccable, but the feeling doesn’t match.” Bostaph returned. Fans of the band may remember that former WHIPLASH member Tony Scaglione joined in the 80s, but he was only a tour support. In contrast, Dette officially joined the band. Moreover, he was recognized by the other members so much that he was temporarily called back in 2013. Speaking of SLAYER’s drummer, Dave Lombardo is the first and foremost, but if he leaves, it’s Paul Bostaph. If Paul can’t do it, then Dette… When it comes to SLAYER, whether it was Gene Hoglan or John Tempesta, the “third choice” was always John Dette. However, Dette only left one song for SLAYER, “SOUNDTRACK TO THE APOCALYPSE”. His true ability was completely in the dark. This work is a unique soundboard album that clears that darkness. [Complete version of the masterpiece soundboard] This work is engraved with “June 29, 1996 Burgum performance (Netherlands)”. It is a pattern of the appearance at the famous festival “WALDROCK FESTIVAL”. This festival was broadcast on FM radio, and has produced the LP bootleg “RIPS UP WALDROCK” and its board drop. In fact, this broadcast is legendary among core maniacs, and even without Dette’s rarity, it is a powerful soundboard known as “top class of the 90s”. This work is not a copy of the already released one. In fact, the last four songs of the show were cut from the existing group to fit into the LP, but this work is a complete version including those four songs “Raining Blood”, “Killing Fields”, “Mandatory Suicide” and “Angel Of Death”. The sound is, so to speak, a “violent sound board”. The extremely thick and straightforward musical tones are full of the neatness and power of the official class, and the rawness is so intense that it even picks up the noise emitted by the on-site PA. It is a powerful live album that truly shows the face of the fierce tyrant king. The precious slash ensemble depicted by that sound is also tremendous. The anthems up to “DIVINE INTERVENTION” are lined up in a row, and the rare songs sandwiched between them are delicious. This tour is also a promotion for the cover album “UNDISPUTED ATTITUDE”, and cover songs such as “Abolish Government/Superficial Love”, “Richard Hung Himself”, and “I Hate You” as well as the rare “Gemini” are also played. And above all, Dette’s drumming. At the time, he left a legend that “only the beautiful bass drum beats could be heard at a windy outdoor festival,” but you can experience his intense drumming on a soundboard directly connected to the brain. The number of hands, the number of feet, the accuracy, the power… in any respect, he is not inferior to Dave Lombardo or Paul Bostaph. He roars with such amazing drumming that it is hard to understand what SLAYER meant when he said “the feeling doesn’t match” (maybe it’s just a personality problem!?). The third drummer after Lombard and Bostaph. This is the one and only soundboard album to know the phantom John Dette era. This is a masterpiece that allows you to experience the “third mode SLAYER” that you could not know officially with a powerful sound that approaches the official. It is a great masterpiece live album that should have been left on the official side. Featuring Jon Dette Waldrock Festival, Burgum, the Netherlands 29th June 1996 STEREO SBD (61:13) 1.
