Description

Seibu Stadium in the summer of 1984, when even the wind was scorching hot. On that day, it was undoubtedly Scorpio Dan who put on a truly wonderful show and was the most visible and shining. This work is an audience album that records that brilliance as a document from the audience side. Disc 1 contains “August 11th” and Disc 2 contains “August 12th”, both recorded with the same taper and same equipment. Of course, this is a completely original recording that was digitized directly from the cassette provided by the recorder himself. This recording was previously released as “SUPER ROCK ’84 TOKYO DAY 1” and “SUPER ROCK ’84 TOKYO DAY 2.” Currently, the Miracle Man recordings “TOKYO FIRST DAY” and “TOKYO SECOND DAY” with a similar concept are available on CD, but these are separate recordings. The Miracle Man master, which had recorded ANVIL and BON JOVI, was selected, but this work is not inferior if it is just the sound. Some customers said, “I like this one better…” In fact, the sound is very neat, and although the beginning of disc 1 is a little far away, it is stable from the second song onwards. From then on, until the end of the second day, you can enjoy plenty of bass with a powerful sound that is so thick that you can’t believe it’s outdoors. And the real thrill is the realism. As a festival that stands out in Japan’s HR/HM history, the on-site experience is irresistible. The festival itself is scorching hot and is talked about from generation to generation, but SCORPIONS’ performance was at the peak of the heatwave. Even in the press DVD, the blowing wind itself made you feel as if it was hotter than your body temperature, but the heat on the audience’s side could be said to be several times that hot. Particularly symbolic is “Can’t Live Without You” on Disc 1, in which a man keeps shouting “Someone! Someone come!” from about a minute into the intro. Someone must have collapsed from heatstroke nearby, but the contrast between the band’s passionate performance and their heartbreaking cries is so surreal that it sends chills down your spine. In other songs as well, the sense of desperation from the audience singing the chorus with such a roar that it felt like several fuses had been blown out in their heads…it wasn’t so much that it interfered with the performance, but it was incredibly powerful. On disc 2, the sound quality has improved even more wonderfully, but the enthusiasm is still tremendous. It’s a scorching documentary that will raise your room temperature by 5 degrees Celsius just by listening to it. In fact, it is precisely because of this recording that we can declare that “SCORPIONS is the best act”. A live show that is extremely stable, yet full of momentum, and throws the audience into a melting pot of enthusiasm. Of course the Uli Roth era was great, but it was this performance that broke Germany out of its shell and took the whole world by storm. The Budokan performance the following year in 1985 was also wonderful, but this work is definitely the one where you can feel the power of the artists of the golden age, dominating not only the fans but also the outdoor space. Scorpio-dan is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. There are constant rumors that “this year may be the last performance in Japan!”, but even among the many legendary performances to date, “SUPER ROCK ’84” is one of the hottest. It was from. While I sincerely hope that we can meet again, let’s just revel in the excitement of 31 years ago.
