Description

With Uli Jon Roth’s departure, Michael Schenker’s return, and then his re-departure, SCORPIONS in 1979 was a tumultuous year rarely seen in the band’s career. However, at the same time, the “LOVEDRIVE” tour of the same year was a fruitful one, including an appearance at the “Reading Festival” in England and a successful entry into the American market, laying the foundation for later global success. It was also a year. Matthias Japs, who joined the band as guitarist to replace Uli and Michael, greatly contributed to the band’s success. Although he was initially considered uneasy, the 1979 Japan tour, where he demonstrated his abilities, can be said to be a very important tour in the history of SCORPIONS. This work “NAGOYA 1979 MASTER” allows you to enjoy the Nagoya City Public Hall performance on June 3rd, the first day of the ’79 Japan tour, with the finest audience source. This ’79 performance in Japan is overwhelmingly famous for the Nakano Sunplaza performance on June 5th, which was the first day in Tokyo. There are two titles: “LIVEDRIVE”, which is an ultra-high-quality audience recording. However, this Nagoya performance is also a wonderful recording that is as good as any of them. Good brightness, direct feel, and a high level of stability throughout, realistically reproducing the band’s performance. Furthermore, the sound image is excellent, with almost no disturbing audience noise during the performance. It can be said that the outstanding quality that makes you wonder if the person involved was recording it for recording purposes is definitely the highest level at that time. The members appeared on stage during the thunderous opening S.E. and started their performance with “Pictured Life.” Fans at the venue who watched Matthias masterfully perform the Uri era’s signature songs recalled that their “anxiety was blown away”. Even in this recording, you can listen to a wonderful play that makes you realize that. The combination of not only Mattias alone but the entire band is also wonderful. The fresh and powerful vocals of Klaus Meine, the crunching rhythm of Rudolf Schenker’s guitar, and the profound drums of Francis Bucholz and Herman Larebel, each member of the band delivers an excellent performance. This is a performance where you can already get a glimpse of the current image of SCORPIONS, where five members play with a strong sense of unity, from the “guitar hero-led band” during the Uri era and Michael’s membership. After the opening scene, there were three famous songs from the Uri era, including “Backstage Queen,” led by the MC with Klaus shouting “Hello Nagoya! Ogenkidesuka!” and “We’ll Burn The Sky,” which everyone wanted to hear. has released new songs such as “Loving You Sunday Morning” and “Lovedrive”. The set list, which is a mix of old and new, provides a great listen to enjoy the changing appearance of the band. The middle part, where melodic songs such as “In Trance”, “Is There Anybody There?”, and “Always Somewhere” continue, is a must-listen part where the characteristics of SCORPIONS shine through (“Is Don’t miss the intro of “There Anybody There?” “Life’s Like A River”, which explodes at the beginning of disc 2, is sure to captivate fans from the powerful intro with Herman’s drums. “Fly To The Rainbow” has a melancholic feel, and as the title suggests, it will make you feel like you are flying, and it will be a dramatic peak of the live performance! You can enjoy the best excitement in the second half of the live, where hard rock numbers such as “He’s A Woman, She’s A Man”, “Another Piece Of Meat”, “Top Of The Bill”, and “Robot Man” are picked up in quick succession. In “Kojo no Tsuki”, which became a standard on their first visit to Japan in 1978, which is known for “TOKYO TAPES”, the audience responds to the band with a big chorus. The last song, “Can’t Get Enough,” is impressive considering Rudolph’s high-spirited MC performance. From the break inserted in the middle part, the arrangement where Klaus restarts with a count of “One! Two! Three! Four!” is also a good place to listen to at this time. The quality of this recording is comparable to that of “LIVEDRIVE”, and it is a must-see for all SCORPIONS fans, with a sound that is both easy to listen to and the most powerful, and a documentary that allows you to realistically experience the excitement of the venue. Definitely a must-listen. Live at Nagoya-Shi Kokaido, Nagoya, Japan 3rd June 1979 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1 1. Introduction 2. Pictured Life 3. Backstage Queen 4.
