Description
SANTANA’s first visit to Japan, a myth in the history of Japanese Western music. The legendary recording that has been passed down from the full show has been upgraded. It is now available in 2CDs with the highest quality sound, revived from the original cassette. This work is recorded at the “July 6, 1973: Nippon Budokan” performance. This is the best audience recording. Speaking of their first visit to Japan, not only is it left in the official traditional work “The Legend of Lotus”, but the TV broadcast pro shots are also known as a major staple. In order to organize the situation around there, let’s first look back at the miraculous Japan tour schedule that was realized in the 49th year.・June 27: Fukuoka City Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium・June 28: Hiroshima Postal Savings Hall・June 30 + July 1: Nagoya City Public Hall (2 performances)・July 2: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall・July 3: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall ←※Lotus Legend・July 4: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall ←※Lotus Legend・July 5: Kyoto Hall・July 6: Nippon Budokan ←※TV broadcast & ★This work★・July 7: Nippon Budokan ←※TV broadcast・July 10 + 11: Hokkaido Welfare Pension Hall (2 performances)A total of 12 performances. LED ZEPPELIN also had 5 performances on their first visit to Japan, and in the same year, YES’s first visit to Japan and DEEP PURPLE also had 6 performances, so this is the scale of their first visit to Japan. Just from the schedule, you can see how much of an event SANTANA’s visit was. While “The Legend of Lotus” was in Osaka, this work is the Nippon Budokan. However, while the famous TV broadcast pro shot was edited from two days, this work is a valuable record that recorded the first day performance (July 6th) in one go. [Newly excavated legendary cassette that has handed down the full show] Moreover, this recording was more than “The Legend of Lotus”. It is a recording that appeared as “EROS” more than 20 years ago, but it boasts the quality of being traded as a sound board, and it was a full recording of the show. Although the complete version of “The Legend of Lotus” has been realized in SACD edition now, it has been incomplete for many years until then. For the past 20 years, it was “EROS, the full view of the first visit to Japan”. Although the preface is long, this work is a copy reissue of such a legendary recording “EROS”. . . . . It is not. The original cassette was excavated and re-digitized in the latest environment of 2022. Moreover, it was “GRAF ZEPPELIN” who was responsible for the work. It is the ultimate board that has jumped over half a century of time and space through careful digitization that can be said to be obsessive. [The legendary scene where not a single second was wasted and the largest reprint was made] In fact, this work has broken the previous record in both quality and quantity. First of all, “quantity”. Although it was a full recording from the legendary board “EROS”, the end of the tape was omitted during digitization and the cut point was also faded. As a result, the precious “live sound of 1973” was reduced. Of course, this work is reproduced to the maximum without wasting a single second. The before the show is recorded for more than 20 seconds longer, about 50 seconds after “Se A Cabo”, about 30 seconds after “Touissaint L’Overture”, and the closing BGM is also recorded for about 30 seconds longer. And more importantly, the interval between “Xibaba (She-Ba-Ba) / Stone Flower (Introduction)”. Although this is not a between-song but a performance part, for some reason it was cut by the knob for about 9 seconds in “EROS”. Of course, this work reproduces the precious live performance without leaving anything out. Permanent preservation has been realized. [Natural and rich upgrade sound] The “quantity” alone is groundbreaking, but this work has also upgraded the “quality” that runs through the entire work. This is already the evolution of the equipment more than anything. After all, the transfer of “EROS” was more than 20 years ago, and the accuracy was not praised by modern standards. It is probably due to the nature of the accuracy, but there are also traces of forcibly erasing a large amount of hiss, and as a result, the performance sound was thin and distortion that was difficult to express in applause was generated. In contrast, this work is extremely natural and rich in sound. Noise processing is not completely zero, but it is stopped at the very limit that does not affect the performance sound. Still, it is beautiful because the accuracy of the transfer stage is high and it has been digitized with minimal noise in the first place. Therefore, the vividness and ease of listening that were mistaken for a sound board are the same… No, it was possible to precisely reproduce the sound that was sounding at the Nippon Budokan 49 years ago while updating it to the highest peak ever. The scene of their first visit to Japan, revived in this way, is truly worthy of the name “legend”. The set is the same as the SACD version of “The Legend of Lotus” (of course the performance is different), but many people will remember the traditional version in LP size. Finally, let’s organize it by comparing it with the original version of “The Legend of Lotus”. Heavenly Guardian – Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen / Oye Como Va / Se A Cabo / Samba Pa Ti / Incident At Nashabur Welcome – Going Home / Yours Is The Light / Samba De Sausalito / Mantra / Light Of Life (★) Santana – (Stone Flower Intro) Waiting / Savor (★) Others – A-1 Funk / Every Step Of The Way / Japan (★) / Bambele (★) / Um Um Um (★) / Batukada / Xibaba (She-Ba-Ba) / Castillos De Arena, Part 1 (Sand Castle) / Free Angela / Castillos De Arena, Part 2 (Sand Castle) / Mr.Udo / The Creator Has A Master Plan (★) / Touissaint L’Overture *Note: Songs marked with “★” are not available on the traditional work “Legend of the Lotus (original version)”. Mr.Udo was credited as Savor when the “Legend of the Lotus” LP was released. A legendary recording that was also the Nippon Budokan version of “The Legend of Lotus”. This is a cultural heritage album meticulously reprinted from the original cassette. It is a shocking live album that can be listened to as a complete version of “The Legend of Lotus” as a musical work, and can even be experienced on-site for the first time in Japan with unparalleled reality. 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 6 seconds of bliss at the mercy of an intense historical spectacle. (Remastering Memo) ★REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN★Re-digitized from the cassette of the previously released “Eros” (Private Master / PM-034/35)★The previously released version had a strong mastering characteristic due to noise reduction and mid-range emphasis, but this time it is extremely fresh. ★Some performances have a dango-like feel, but only a slight EQ processing has been applied. ★The finest audience recording of the legendary first visit to Japan “July 6, 1973: Nippon Budokan” performance. The original cassette of the famous recording that was once traded as a soundboard was miraculously unearthed. This is an upgraded version that has been updated to the highest peak with the latest transfer by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. It includes long recordings before and after the show and between songs, and also reprints the intervals between “Xibaba (She-Ba-Ba) / Stone Flower (Introduction)” that were cut in the previous release. In addition, the sound has been upgraded to a much more natural / rich sound. This is the birth of a cultural heritage album that allows you to fully experience the legendary scene.
