Description
SANTANA’s April Japan tour was also amazing. The latest live album has arrived, bringing back vivid memories of that experience. Although it brings back memories, this work does not include a performance in Japan. This work was recorded after the band left Japan, during the “May 2, 2017 Maui (Hawaii) performance.” This is the ultimate audience album. First, let’s check the 2017 live schedule. ・January 25th – February 4th: Las Vegas (7 performances) – 2 months later – ・April 4th: Singapore (1 performance) ・April 7th – 18th: Oceania (7 performances) ・April 22nd – 27th: Japan (4 performances) ・April 30th + May 2nd: Hawaii (2 performances) ←★Here★ ・May 17th – 28th: Las Vegas (8 performances) ・June 23rd – July 13th: North America (15 performances) … and this is the first half of 2017. SANTANA is always touring regardless of the album, so there are plenty of live shows scheduled until November. The Maui performance of this work is a concert immediately after the performance in Japan. The biggest point of this work is the superb quality. The powerful recording “BUDOKAN 2017 (Uxbridge 668)” has appeared from the Japanese performance, but this work is just as amazing. Although the vivid breath of the audience is definitely engraved with evidence of the audience recording, the tough and bold musical sound has the strength to kick out poor line recording. The secret of the sound is actually the venue. The “A & B Amphitheater” where the scene was was an outdoor venue, with a structure that surrounds a stage like a tower with a square. Some people may have the image that the musical sound is drowned out by the wind when they hear “outdoor venues” or that it is difficult to hear distant performances, but that is a story from a long time ago. In modern times, PA has developed, and you can hear the best sound even outdoors. When the sound is picked up by advanced digital equipment, unlike indoors, there is no echo around, and the sound becomes clear and transparent. Moreover, if there is a PA building outdoors, it is perfect. Since it is installed to be heard far away, you can get a straight-ball sound as if it was recorded directly from the speaker without being bothered by the enthusiasm just before the stage. In the case of this work, although the recording position is not conveyed, a sound flows out as if it embodies the ideal of such outdoor recording. The direct feeling and fine details of the vivid musical sound roar with a sense of openness, and the transparent atmosphere of the site enriches the “sound”. The show drawn with that quality is reminiscent of the Japanese performance, but the expression that is different from the others is also wonderful. Although the beginning of the show is very similar to “BUDOKAN 2017,” “Evil Woman,” which was not heard at Nippon Budokan, is sandwiched in the middle, and “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone,” “Samba Pati,” “Right On,” and “Umi Says” are played in one go at the end. The enthusiasm of the audience who witnessed the passionate performance was also the best. As mentioned above, the Maui performance was an outdoor venue, but the spacious enthusiasm was like a summer festival. This mood suits SANTANA’s music very well, and you can really feel the way the endlessly hot Latin rock heats up the square. From the Japanese performance, which was still spring, to Hawaii, where the summer is perpetual. There, the tropical Latin rock was burning even hotter, but also refreshing. It is a masterpiece recording that seals it all with the superb audience sound unique to modern outdoor venues. This live album is perfect for reminiscing about the Japanese performances and enjoying the hotter seasons to come. This is a film that makes you look forward to the day when you can meet SANTANA again.
