Description
This is fantastic! Highly recommended. Santana celebrated their 20th anniversary in 1986. A superb pro-shot recording of that anniversary concert has now been released. This recording was taken at the “Mountain View” concert on August 17, 1986. It’s a multi-camera pro-shot capturing the “20th Anniversary Celebration Concert.” This was during the “Beyond Appearances” era, and recently there has been a surge in soundboard recordings from this period, such as “Chicago 1985 Soundboard,” and above all, their participation in “Sound Market ’86” is a memorable event. First, let’s delve into the overview of their activities at that time and confirm the relationships between each. 1985 (February 25th: “BEYOND APPEARANCES” released) – April 27th – May 10th: North America #1 (11 shows) – May 30th – August 22nd: North America #2 (42 shows) ← *CHICAGO 1985 and others – November 15th: Albany show 1986 – January 18th / May 24th: North America #3 (2 shows) – June 1st: SOUND MARKET ’86 appearance – June 5th – 12th: Australia + Hawaii (6 shows) – July 12th – August 17th: North America #4 (21 shows) ← ★HERE★ – September 19th – November 1st: North America #5 (14 shows) – December 13th: Bournemouth show This is Santana in 1985/1986. The legendary “SOUND MARKET After ’86, they toured Australia and Hawaii before returning to the US. This 20th-anniversary concert took place on the final day, the highlight of their “North America #4” tour. While professional footage of this show has been known for some time, this DVD is a remaster from the best existing master. It’s not from a broadcast, but a top-of-the-line version created from a low-generation VHS dubbed from the original master. In fact, its quality is an unparalleled treasure. As expected from footage from 40 years ago, the picture quality is analog-standard, and there is some slight discoloration, but the screen is almost free of distortion and noise, vivid in every corner, and the details are sharp. While it may not be considered fully official by modern standards, it is certainly “excavated official-grade” and could easily be released as a highlight in a box set. This beautiful video captures a special full-stage performance celebrating the 20th anniversary. The show is divided into two parts, each included on a separate disc in this release. DISC 1: Part 1 “The Regular Santana of the Time” The first part, introduced by Bill Graham, features Santana’s performance from 1986. The structure is similar to a typical concert, such as “Chicago 1985 Soundboard,” and the performance time is a generous 1 hour and 40 minutes. While some of their signature tracks like “Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen” and “Soul Sacrifice” are saved for the second part, this is a masterpiece of professional filming that can be thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone “Beyond Appearances Tour” performance. DISC 2: Part Two “Classic Lineup Reunion” The second part of the show featured a special stage befitting the 20th anniversary. Bill Graham reappeared and introduced each member of “Santana III” one by one. This was a reunion concert where the original members from 1971 came together. But it wasn’t just any reunion. The current members who appeared in the first part also participated, and even Carlos’s brother Jorge Santana and Alex Ligertwood made appearances. It was truly a once-in-20-years dream team performance, and with a running time of approximately 73 minutes, it was a lengthy and spectacular concert totaling about 2 hours and 53 minutes. This is the best master of the pro-shot footage from Santana’s 20th anniversary special concert, which took place two and a half months after “’86”. This two-disc DVD captures the stunning visuals that transcend 40 years from the stage. It’s a multi-camera pro-shot of the “August 17, 1986: 20th Anniversary Concert.” This is a top-tier, “official-grade” version, unearthed from the best existing master. Part 1 (DISC 1) features a regular Santana performance, while Part 2 (DISC 2) is a reunion concert with members from the “Santana III” era. Enjoy approximately three hours of this cultural heritage.
