Description

The album “Irish Tour ’74” released in 1974 and “Against The Grain” released the following year were commercially successful, and this recording was taken from the Reading Festival stage on August 28th in 1976, which was the peak of Rory’s career. This is the first recording of a live performance recorded directly from a cassette master that he owned and recorded at the time. Since it was a festival, the set list was shorter than usual, but the entire 86 minutes, including an acoustic set, was recorded in full. The performance on this day was filled with wild guitar playing that could be said to be the best in 1976, and after the audience was so shocked that they lost their words, they could feel the excitement. In particular, “Secret Agent” from the album “Calling Card”, which was unique to Rory at the time, was a song that was set in from this period, and the performance is wilder than the performances that can be heard at later live shows. As for the sound quality, it is quite high quality for an audience recording at an outdoor stage at that time, and although there are some parts where the sound quality is not consistent, the separation of each instrument and vocals is good and it is a good recording that realistically reproduces the atmosphere of the day. This is a title that cannot be left out of Rory Gallagher’s 1976 live performance, and is also an important work when talking about Reading ’76. Live at Reading Festival, England 28th August 1976 TRULY AMAZING SOUND (from Original Masters) Disc.1 1. I Take What I Want 2. Bought and Sold 3. Poor Boy/Drinking Muddy Water 4. Tattoo’d Lady 5.
