Description

In 1978, Rory Gallagher welcomed Ted McKenna and released “PHOTO-FINISH” as a power trio. A soundboard album that pours the ensemble back to its roots into your brain is now available. This work was recorded at the “San Francisco performance on December 3, 1978”. This is an FM soundboard recording. 1978 was a turning point when the band made a big change from a four-person group to a power trio, and the meaning of the show changes with just a slight difference in time. First, let’s take a look at the overview of their activities at the time and check the position of this work.・March 27th-April 29th: Europe #1 (20 performances)《Lou Martin/Rod Diaz leaves → Ted McKenna joins》・June 1st-July 2nd: Europe #2 (4 performances)《July-August “PHOTO-FINISH” production》・August 18th-September 30th: Europe #3a (15 performances)《October 1st “PHOTO-FINISH” released》・October 1st-October 30th: Europe #3b (25 performances)・November 8th-December 4th: North America (29 performances)←★Here★・December 8th-31st: Europe #4a (14 performances) This is Rory Gallagher in 1978. The San Francisco performance of this work was one act of the “North American” leg, about two months after the release of “PHOTO-FINISH”. In fact, this leg was a bumper crop of soundboard masterpieces. This is a good opportunity, so let’s zoom in on the details and organize our collection. Details of the “North American” leg: November 8-10 (4 shows), November 11 “BOTTOM LINE 1978 (Early)”, November 11 “BOTTOM LINE 1978 LATE SHOW”, November 12: New York performance (Early), November 12 “BOTTOM FINISH (Late)”, November 13-19 (7 shows), November 20 “CLEVELAND 1978 SOUNDBOARD”, November 21-December 2 (10 shows), December 3: San Francisco performance ←★This work★, December 4: Davis (2 shows)… and so on. The New York “BOTTOM LINE” trilogy has been famous as a standard for some time, but last year “CLEVELAND 1978 SOUNDBOARD” also appeared. This work was a concert two weeks later. This work, which conveys such a stage, is a newly excavated FM soundboard. It is a different type from the so-called official style, with rough and lively live performances flowing out unreservedly, and the sense of synchronization that the instrument itself is sounding in the brain is intense. On top of that, it has a warm vintage feel, and the rich scent of the 70s is also richly radiated. Such a sepia rich sound depicts a stage that is similar to other “North American” leg soundboards. Finally, let’s organize the set while comparing them. Originals (9 songs) Photo Finish: Shin Kicker / Brute Force And Ignorance (★) / Shadow Play / The Mississippi Sheiks Calling Card: Do You Read Me / Secret Agent / Calling Card (★★) Others: Bought And Sold / Tattoo’d Lady Covers (6 songs) I Wonder Who (Muddy Waters) / I Take What I Want (Sam & Dave) / Out On The Western Plain (★: Leadbelly) / Too Much Alcohol (★: J.B. Hutto) / Messin’ With The Kid (Junior Wells) / Bullfrog Blues (Traditional) *Note: The “★” mark indicates songs that were not heard on the most recent soundboard album “CLEVELAND 1978”. In particular, the “★★” mark indicates songs that are not even included in the “BOTTOM LINE” trilogy. The basic structure, centered on “PHOTO-FINISH” and “CALLING CARD”, is the same as the “CLEVELAND 1978 SOUNDBOARD” and “BOTTOM LINE” trilogy, but it feels like they have been shuffled and replaced. The power trio version of “Calling Card” is also delicious, but the spontaneous mood is even more wonderful, and I want to listen to it at any performance. Rory Gallagher in 1978, who enthusiastically appeared in the media as if he was re-debuting because he had turned to a new system, and left many broadcast sound sources. This is a newly excavated sound board that pours that passion into your brain. Although it is by no means official class, it is a new masterpiece that allows you to fully enjoy the sense of synchronization and the real pleasure of line sound sources.
