Description

Ronnie, who released the live album “MAD LAD” from the Chuck Berry tribute concert held last year, is performing several gigs this November. Among them, Shepherd’s Bush Empire attracted attention as it was widely announced even before the album was released. This venue is familiar to Stones gigs, and Ronnie has held his own gigs many times since the beginning of the 21st century, so it is a place he can call home. The gig that just took place on the 21st of last month was free for video shooting (I think Japan is the only place where it’s still regulated…bitter smile), so audience videos have already appeared on YouTube, and among them is the entire show. This title is the DVD version of the stunning version that captures this. The footage, which seems to have been shot from the balcony directly in front of the stage, is extremely stable, and the quality is so great that you can watch the 90-minute gig all the way to the end without getting tired. On the contrary, as a result of the VIP ticket slot being set up for the gig at Shepherd’s Bush, a video of some of the soundcheck was even circulated. Therefore, this time we have thoroughly summarized the gig videos at Shepherd’s Bush that have appeared on YouTube. The main feature is an almost complete recording of the gig taken on the balcony. However, in this video, there were some skipped frames at the beginning and end of the show, but by patching in footage from a different angle from the same day, we were able to adjust it so that it could be seen smoothly without any interruptions. I’m doing it. In addition to the main video, a bonus video is recorded from the center of the first floor seats. Naturally, this shooting position is closer to the stage than balcony shooting, and the appeal is that it gives you the sense of being there as if you were watching the live performance. For each song, the shooting button is pressed after the performance begins, and although it is a shame that the intro and early part (and even the ending) are somewhat cut-off, the powerful angles more than make up for it. The last thing recorded was another video that was compiled over 13 minutes, and as you can imagine from its length, it is a shame that the performance is broken into pieces. However, among them, the video taken from the left side of the stage is attractive because it has a powerful close-up angle and the sound of Ronnie’s guitar is captured greatly. Also, these two types of bonus footage are valuable because they both capture the sound check. For this gig, a band centered around Ben Waters, who is a pianist and previously participated in Charlie Watts’ The ABC&D Of Boogie Woogie band, will be backing, just like on the live album. By the way, Ronnie is the only guitarist, so the appeal is that you can enjoy his guitar throughout the entire album. Ronnie always tends to complement Chuck Berry’s Keith when he is with the Stones, but he is always playing with him, and Ronnie’s play of Berry is also attractive. What is surprising is that Ronnie runs around the stage full of energy throughout the gig, and even though he is the youngest member of the Stones, his footwork is so light that you can’t believe he is 72 years old. Imelda May is participating as a guest vocalist there, and as a female vocalist with a rockabilly orientation, her compatibility with Berry’s repertoire is excellent. “Sweet Little Rock & Roller”, which Ronnie sang in the New Barbarians, is also the lead vocalist here. However, the biggest surprise was Lulu’s appearance in the Christmas song “Run Rudolph Run.” She is one year younger than Ronnie and is completely the same generation as her, active in the 1960s. Therefore, I am sorry to say that he will be 71 years old this year, but I am amazed not only by his light footwork, but also by his unwavering and powerful shout. With their participation, Ronnie’s latest Chuck Berry tribute gig has a different charm than the live album. The concept of this gig is that “Don’t You Lie to Me” and “Bye Bye Johnny” are played more faithfully to Berry’s version than the Stones’ version. After all, all of the videos are worth watching even though they are shot from the audience seats, so please enjoy them carefully until the bonus part.
