Description

Twenty years have already passed since the No Security Tour in 1999. It is no longer strange to put it in the category of “vintage”. The official release of San Jose at the end of the tour is probably proof that the Stones themselves have recognized their vintage position. The tour got off to a stumbling start due to Mick’s sore throat (due to which San Jose was postponed to the final stage of the tour), but after that they fired up full steam. A literally special tour held only in the United States during the three-year long Babylon tour. While it was such a unique tour, it was also a tour where speed release was heated. Not to be outdone, they followed suit with faster releases, and I still remember the heated release battle. It is also true that the quality of the audience recording used was secondary as the atmosphere that prioritized speed became stronger. Since they used a smaller venue than before, and because of this the tickets were expensive, there must have been a negative effect that the enthusiasts who would have dared to record were not able to participate. Thanks to this, it was also true that at that time, considering the time of 1999, items with unexpectedly good sound quality did not appear. The Washington performance, which was held twice in early March, was one of them. Items were released in real time at both shows, but the sound was particularly bad on the first day. Although the title “YOU GOT THE SILVER” was released at that time, the sound quality was indescribably poor. Although it would be fine if the sound image was only recorded at a distance, the problem was that the sound would waver in places. Still, it is easy to imagine that it was released in response to the demand for the latest live performances. As expected, it was a sound source with a bad reputation from the beginning of its release, but since it was a 1999 show, no other sound source appeared, and even then mania continued to listen. However, this May, more than 20 years have passed since the show, and a new sound source suddenly appeared. This is a new sound source that appeared on the internet this time, but it is a wonderful audience recording that does not make the previously released version a problem. The sound from the previous sound source was distant and unstable, so depending on the song, it was difficult to hear the details of the performance. However, although the sound source this time is not as good as the recording state that can be described as “just like a soundboard”, the sense of distance and clearness of the performance is excellent, and above all, the freshness is outstanding. It is surprising that a sound source that is much easier to listen to than “YOU GOT THE SILVER” has now been discovered. Also, although it is the B stage, which is the gateway for this period, I am glad that the recording condition is surprisingly stable except for the part where the sound is extremely shifted to the right at the beginning of “Route 66”. Furthermore, in this release, we have adjusted this localization bias as much as possible, so the originally excellent sound source has been upgraded to make it even easier to hear. Although the sense of realism is outstanding, the fact that there are no noisy spectators nearby is a big advantage. If you listen to the first day in Washington again with this first appearance sound source, which makes the performance much easier to hear, it is also wonderful. In the first place, the March leg, which is the final stage of the No Security Tour, has a high standard of performance every day, but as usual, this day is also in great condition. The opening of the B stage that I mentioned earlier, “Route 66”, has a wild momentum that even surpasses San Jose. The fast-paced feel of “Live With Me” and “Respectable” is also wonderful. It’s nothing compared to the Stones of today, but it makes me keenly aware that they played such a tight performance. Surprisingly, Keith’s “You Got The Silver” was premiered live on this day. His repertoire, which is still performed today, debuted on this day. That’s why Keith plays in such a scary and surprising tone, and the awkwardness of it is so funny. This is interesting because it seems fresh to me now. After all, the sound quality of the previously released version was far away and had a very unique sound, so why did they let us hear such a fulfilling performance on the first day in Washington? There is no doubt that you will be reminded of this. A newly discovered audience recording for the first time in a while from the No Security tour, which had been dormant for 20 years. It is also a wonderful sound source that will satisfy enthusiasts with both nostalgia and freshness. (Remastered memo) Adjustments were made to improve the clarity without destroying the atmosphere of the original sound, and the imbalance from right to left to right across the stage change was made even, making it easier to listen to.
