Description

The video work “11PM presents THE ROLLING STONES SPECIAL 1990” was a nuclear explosion-level shock. A sequel to the work, a TV broadcast collection, has been decided to be released. “11PM presents THE ROLLING STONES SPECIAL 1990” (hereinafter referred to as the previous work) was intense. It was a national program special on the Stones, and the explosive excitement of the band’s first visit to Japan was synchronized with the silly atmosphere unique to late-night programs. Of course, the maniac who recorded that strange program did not just happen to record one. He was able to record it because he used all kinds of information and checked out all the special programs and corners related to the Stones. This work is a selection of those “every corner”. It is a compilation of various Stones-related broadcasts by the maniac who recorded the previous work. There are nine types of Stones broadcasts recorded in this work. From news less than 30 seconds long to MTV specials lasting 20 minutes, this is a collection of videos that will allow you to immerse yourself in “Stones-hungry Japan in 1989” for about an hour. Although the image quality of each is different, they are generally excellent. Some of them are so beautiful that you might think they were made from LD. Another feature is that they are in chronological order. This maniac’s master had no concept other than “Stones-related 1989 broadcasts,” and recorded the programs that were broadcast one after another. Therefore, the passage of time feels real (the previous work was extracted from the time series master). Now, let’s introduce these nine types of videos in three major sections. [Breaking news period before the tour started (2 types)] Best Hits USA #1 (about 11 minutes) The first section is a breaking news period broadcast mainly focusing on the tour announcement press conference, and the first is a symbolic program of Japanese Western music history. The press conference was “July 11, 1989,” so it was probably immediately after that. There are no clips of new songs, and the live performances that are sandwiched between them are from 1982. The frustration of only having fragmentary information from press conferences and song titles is refreshing and reminiscent of that time, and the legendary DJ casually mentions, “As usual, there are some rumors of a visit to Japan.” This is a show that will make you gasp. CNN Entertainment News #1 (about 30 seconds) Next is a commercial-sized mini-news. It introduces apparel goods produced by Mick and Charlie. [The first two weeks of the tour (4 types)] Nightline (about 2 minutes) This is where the tour finally starts. First, there is a 2-minute corner that reports on the first day, “August 31st Philadelphia performance.” Interviews with fans and the topic of the arrest of 15 scalpers (!) are also introduced, but the important thing is the live pro shot of “Start Me Up.” This is the first song on the first day of the tour in 7 years. Although it is only a short one, it is a scene that symbolizes the restart. 11PM (about 9 minutes) Here, a national late-night program appears. This is a broadcast from around the time the tour reached Toronto (3rd-4th show), and of course it is a completely different broadcast from the previous one, which was during their visit to Japan. They do a lot of jumping around here, such as introducing the arrest history of the members on a flip, but it’s not as crazy as the previous one. The studio is not a living room but a normal set, and Jun○ Takada is the “5 o’clock man” himself. The feeling of the time when the excitement gradually increased is exuded and it is real when he quickly speaks, “The excitement of the fans should lead to the Stones coming to Japan!” CNN Entertainment News #2 (about 45 seconds) CNN news again. Although it’s a bit longer, it’s still a commercial size and tells us that the tour has started. Best Hits USA #2 (about 10 minutes) The national Western music program appears again. The latest information on the tour is reported mainly on the clip of “Mixed Emotions” and a unique medley of 12 songs. In fact, “Mixed Emotions” appears several times in this work, but the best version is this program version. Although it is only a part, the lyrics are subtitled in their own translation. And a 12-song medley. In reality, it’s just a line of clips, but the compressed feeling of chasing “The Stones’ 80s” at a fast pace is fun. The tour schedule is also shown here, and according to it, this program was broadcast around the 9th performance in Cincinnati. By the way, the contents of the 12 medley songs are below. “Miss You (1978) → It’s Only Rock’n Roll (1979) → Emotional Rescue (1980) → Start Me Up (1981) → Hang Fire (1981) → Waiting On A Friend (1981) → Going To A Go Go (1982) → Time Is On My Side (1982) → She Was Hot (1983) → Undercover Of The Night (1983) → Harlem Shuffle (1986) → One Hit (To The Body) (1986)” [After October 1989, when the tour started in earnest (3 types)] LA Special (about 3 minutes) The last section is broadcast after October 1989, when the tour also started in earnest. This is a corner reporting on the “October 21st Los Angeles performance”, a pro shot live of “Start Me Up” and an interview with a fan. For a moment, a Japanese person who seems to be a tour guest is also shown. “Mick and the others, are you coming to Japan? Now that you’ve seen this, you have no choice but to come!” The narrator says, and the rumor seems to be becoming more real. SHOWBIZ CNN (about 3 and a half minutes) And then CNN appears for the third time. Here, instead of commercial size, it is a mini corner centered on interviews with the members. The rarity of the interviews that can only be seen in this work is dazzling, and Bill Wyman also talks about Charlie. Moreover, the content is not about Charlie’s partner in the rhythm section, but about Charlie’s dislike of reporters. I’m not sure why I wanted to ask Bill about Charlie, but it’s valuable anyway. MTV Special (about 20 minutes) Finally, the longest feature in this work. The tour starts again with a press conference, and clips and “Mixed Emotions” from the Seattle performance on September 3rd are also played (by the way, this fire also has a long pro shot, but this broadcast is from a different angle). Here too, the original interviews are valuable, and you can see the tour trailer that would have been frequently aired on local MTV. Moreover, the picture quality is strangely amazing, and this trailer is a treasure as a material collection. In addition, this program is hosted by both Hagiwara Ken○ and Carl Smokey Ishi○, and during the talk, they casually say, “Maybe I’ll come to Japan next year.” As they say, they will be coming to Japan in February, but it’s surprising that they are still so carefree at this stage. This is a collection of nine Japanese broadcasts. It’s not as crazy as the previous work “11PM presents THE ROLLING STONES SPECIAL 1990,” but it’s even more valuable. And above all, the process of gradually heating up over time is real. Rumors gradually turn into convictions and become open secrets. This is a piece that will let you enjoy the scent of 1989 to the fullest. Various TV programs broadcast in Japan 1989 BEST HIT USA (Star Of The Week) 1.
