Description

Screen footage of several performances from the October leg of the Rolling Stones’ 1981 tour has been leaked. The most famous one is probably Seattle’s Kingdome on the 14th, but another October screen image is Houston’s Astrodome on the 28th. In contrast to Kingdome, which has released not only videos but also sound sources, this one has tended to be overlooked in recent years. Considering that in the boot video era, it was an October screen video alongside Kingdome, has the roughness that tends to be found in leaked videos with Kingdome in the DVD era stopped producing items? Therefore, an item containing screen footage of Houston will be released. As I mentioned at the beginning, it is a leaked video that was originally shot for the screen, so it cannot be said to be of master quality. However, it is based on a version with a high enough quality to enjoy. The pitch of the versions that have been circulating until now was often slightly lowered at the time of release, so the first thing to do is to adjust that. Also, speaking of the Houston video, there is a phenomenon of sound cracking in the first two songs. In recent years, a soundboard recording of the PA out that did not go through the video feed of the same day has been discovered, and there was an option to replace it, but there was a big problem with the balance that Keith’s guitar was weak. As was the case with Kingdome, the presence of Keith’s guitar is one of the attractions of the video feed soundboard. Therefore, for this release, we decided to use the audio as is from the original video. Another advantage that cannot be overlooked is that the video itself is easier to view than Kingdome. Similar to the footage from 1977 when Led Zeppelin released a soundboard album based on similar screen footage, Kingdome’s screen footage shows movements from a few minutes ago in between songs. It has a slow motion effect. This is completely outdated now, but there is no such equipment in Houston, and the live performance itself is captured straight from beginning to end, making it very easy to watch. Furthermore, as evidenced by the Kingdome footage and sound source, the October leg shines with vigor and unrestrainedness, and is even better than November’s Meadowlands, which was featured in the movie “LET’S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER.” I think there are quite a few enthusiasts who feel that this is more Stones-like and better. When it came to the Hamptons in December, which was the most popular tour of the 1981 tour, it was elevated to a level of perfection suitable for the final stage of the tour, but the looseness unique to the Stones shone the most on this tour. Definitely October. First of all, judging from the looks of the members, they are not as fashionably dressed as they were at Hampton, and they appear in the fashions that everyone knows from the 1981 tour. Mick was wearing a yellow tank top, so much so that when he took off his jacket, his whole body turned into a yellow man. What is even more noteworthy is the content of this day’s performance. “Neighbours”, which seems like it’s going to end but never ends, is familiar to enthusiasts as this day’s wandering performance, but there are many other highlights as well. “Let Me Go” was about to end in the same way but couldn’t finish, but if you look at the video, Mick still doesn’t have the service to run around the audience, and instead he is forcing Ronnie to burst out laughing during the performance. Furthermore, it is also good that at the end of “Twenty Flight Rock” Keith plays with Mick, a scene that looks exactly like the scene seen in the photo of the live album “STILL LIFE” of the 1981 tour. At the same time, if you look closely, you’ll notice that Keith’s fashion on that day was strange. A few songs into the show, he takes off his jacket and reveals a corset-like thing wrapped around his waist. But that’s not all. You can see that the guitar strap that Keith lowers on this day has something like a cushion attached with tape to the part that hits the shoulder. However, Keith at Kingdome didn’t have this kind of equipment, so it was clearly a special edition for that day. Keith probably hurt his hip. Is this a strained back? That said, the care paid off has paid off, and although his appearance is a bit strange, it’s encouraging to see him playing the guitar with his usual lively stage action. That’s why Keith’s sound is so important for this day’s audio. And although “Brown Sugar” is not recorded in this video, it is probably time to replace the video, and the fact that the song is not recorded will not be resolved in the future. Even if this point is taken away, the pro-shot video that captures the mischievous and unrestrained Stones in October is worth watching. This is a pro-shot video release of the 1981 live show that is full of Stones characteristics, and should be thoroughly enjoyed by DVD generation enthusiasts who don’t even know it exists because it has been overlooked in recent years. And, this 1981 live video “HOUSTON 1981” comes with a bonus disc containing another version of the 1981 tour movie “ROCKS OFF”! The movie “LET’S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER” is the mainstay of this year’s live videos. However, this movie was released in Germany in 1982 under the title “ROCKS OFF”, a little earlier than it was released in other countries in 1983. Not only was the title different, but there was a big point that you could see the performance scene of “When The Whip Comes Down” which was cut in the later “LET’S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER”. There were some criticisms about this movie, such as “the pitch was unusually high” and “the performance was edited in detail,” but most importantly, the song that was played at the beginning of the live performance was cut out. There must have been many enthusiasts who were disappointed. However, this song was firmly recorded in “ROCKS OFF”. After all, in 1981, the flow from the opening “Under My Thumb” to “When The Whip Comes Down” needs to be maintained. Moreover, since it is the first half of the movie, the performance scene of the same song is of course from Sun Devil Stadium in December. You can see the performance scene of the same song at a familiar location in “LET’S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER”. Furthermore, Ronnie’s dressing room scene does not appear in “Neighbours”, and in “Time Is On My Side” there is no insertion of videos looking back on past members and history, and it is a big advantage that you can see pure performance scenes. In particular, in the latter version, “LET’S SPEND~” showed the decapitated head of a dead soldier (from the Vietnam War?), so I think many people would prefer this version because it’s less stressful. There are also differences in editing in the image shots inserted in “She’s So Cold.” And although the opening is in the same font as “LET’S SPEND~”, “ROCKS OFF” is displayed, which shows the difference in version. However, in terms of image quality, this version is at the level of past VHS and is not as good as current DVDs and Blu-rays. However, this bonus disc has an additional advantage, so you can’t miss it. That too high pitch has been properly adjusted! Although the “ROCKS OFF” version has been around for a long time, this is probably the first time it has been possible to watch it at the correct pitch. Thanks to this, you can now enjoy the rare version without worrying! ! Disc 1 Houston Astrodome, Houston, TX, USA 28th October 1981 PRO-SHOT 1. Take The ‘A’ Train 2. Under My Thumb 3.
