Description
The 2018 edition of the “NO FILTER” European tour also ended successfully in Poland last week. I wonder if this tour was the aging rockers’ effort to redeem the stigma of the lackluster performance that was exposed on the first “NO FILTER” tour last fall. Last week, the Berlin show, which boasts the best sound quality at the moment, was released, but this time the next show, the Marseille show, will be released. However, the condition of the audience recording that appeared on the Internet after the Marseille show had a lot of problems. Of course, the sound image itself is not bad. Although it is not in the same range as Berlin, it still captures it in a fairly on state. The sound quality is muffled. It is as if the microphone was covered with a towel or something and recorded. Or as if the taper was recorded from inside the jacket. Nevertheless, the release was considered because it was a sound source capturing the latest Marseille show, but the staff did not give up and tried equalizing it several times, and as a result, the sound quality was improved tremendously! Unlike the equalization process for analog recordings, it is easy to change digital recordings for the better with equalization. When I first heard the sound source downloaded from the Internet, I almost gave up, but after carefully correcting the sound quality with equalization, I succeeded in eliminating that fatal muffledness in one go. If you are a maniac who has obtained the original sound source, please listen and compare it. The amazing clarity is not just one layer, but three layers. It’s as if the thick rain clouds that were covering the sound suddenly turned into a clear sky. In addition, the impression that the performance was deep due to the muffled state of the original sound is also eliminated in one go. Not only that, the noisy excitement that can be compared to the European tour specialty is pinpoint adjustment. For example, the moment the intro of “Honky Tonk Women” started, the sound of a nearby audience happily clapping their hands was heard in a state that pierced the ears, but by suppressing this part, the problem was solved. It will sound as if such clapping never occurred. On the other hand, the excitement itself is conveyed by the enthusiasm of the surrounding fans, and it is rather enjoyable, which is a good thing about this recording. Of course, the major songs are included, but the excitement is also to sing along to Keith’s “You Got The Silver”. And yet, the balance is not such that it drowns out the performance. Rather, there are many scenes that make you want to sympathize with the performance, which is fun. The surprising fact that the state of the Stones, which has been completely reborn from the original recording, is that the performance of the Stones on this day was very wonderful. Starting with the opening “Street Fighting Man”, powerful performances are released in rapid succession. “Tumbling Dice”, where Ronnie’s unstable playing has been noticeable in the interlude lately, is also played with ease. Above all, Charlie is in great form from the beginning. Among them, the first song played in the selection of the day was “Get Off of My Cloud”. Since it is one of the killer tunes created by the Stones in the 1960s, I don’t want to hear a sluggish performance of this song. If it had an atmosphere like Berlin, it would be out. However, Charlie was in top form, and a surprisingly great performance was presented, full of momentum. This tour has already been performed in Cardiff on June 15th, but the momentum was clearly higher in Marseille. Another special selection on this day was also very pleasing. It was “Fool To Cry”, which was performed for the first time since the first day in London. At that time, they performed a wonderful performance that did not feel a gap, but the performance here in Marseille was also wonderful. It was confirmed that this repertoire can easily revive the original atmosphere even for the current Stones. The audience was as excited as they were in London, and it was almost like they were remembering the performance in The Hague in 1976. I can say with confidence that the performance of these two songs alone makes this release worth listening to, but the performance after that is also very powerful. Anyway, Charlie seems to be in top form, and even when Keith introduced the members, he kept hitting the fast tempo rhythm and excited them. If that happens, it is guaranteed that “Midnight Rambler” will be a great version. As expected, Charlie incites the band with hyper tension, and it is amazing to see all the members working together to liven up the performance without losing the same brilliance as in Berlin. When Charlie is in good shape, it makes you realize how much the performance voltage rises. It is true that the quality may not be as good as the honor student audience recording in Berlin, which is a level that can be safely recommended to beginners and enthusiasts alike. Still, compared to the original sound, the sound quality has evolved into an amazing upper version. And above all, the performance is overwhelmingly wonderful from start to finish. If you listen to it, there is no doubt that it is the leading candidate for the best performance on this tour. “Berlin of sound quality” vs. “Marseille of performance”! ★The performance is simply good on this day. (Remastering memo) ★The performance gives the impression of receding into the background, so we equalized it in various ways to bring it to the front, resulting in a reasonably high sound quality. We tried to reduce the applause as much as possible. Live at Stade Velodrome, Marseille, France 26th June 2018 TRULY AMAZING/PERFECT SOUND Disc 1 (59:47) 1. Intro 2. Street Fighting Man 3.
