Description
Speaking of the Stones and Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, everyone remembers the live broadcast in December 1989. It was also a place related to the now-popular President Trump, and the incident where the broadcast was interrupted midway due to weather problems is very nostalgic. And above all, it is a live recording that represents the Stones in 1989. However, the Stones did not only perform at Boardwalk Hall in 1989. In fact, they also performed there in 2006. On November 17, the second year of the “A BIGGER BANG” tour, the Stones returned to Atlantic City again. Mick also mentioned the 1989 live performance in the MC. However, there may not be many enthusiasts who remember this 2006 version of Atlantic City. In the first place, there were almost no items released that recorded the shows in October and November 2006. I think that the reason was that the market had become saturated with items from the “A BIGGER BANG” tour from the previous year (lol). It’s a tragedy that there are so few items from the period when high-quality performances were being held day after day after day after more than a year has passed since the tour. Among them, Atlantic City was only recorded as a bonus for the Tokyo Dome performance in the box set “A BIGGER BANG WORLD TOUR 2006”, with only four songs recorded. This time, the first complete version release with the same audience recording will be realized, but since it has been praised as a high-quality recording by enthusiasts who have listened to the box and specialist books, it can be said that the appearance of the long-awaited enthusiasts is finally here. Although the bass of the audience recording on this day is slightly weak, the sound image is very on-balanced and the clarity is outstanding. I assert that it is a superb recording that has never been released before. Of course, there are only sound sources that have been forgotten until now, and aside from the good sound quality, there are some slight negative points. First of all, there is a slight lack of intros for “Sympathy For The Devil” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. Unfortunately, there is no other sound source from the same day, so compensation is not provided. The other is the noise that appears in the middle of “You Can’t Always”. This is thought to have occurred during recording on a DAT recorder due to a mobile phone call near the recorder (after all, this is the era of mobile phones, not smartphones, and DAT recorders, not HD). This condition may have been the reason why the item has not been released until now. In other words, the sound quality is so easy to listen to that it seems like a minor problem. And above all, the performance is outstandingly wonderful! In the second year of the tour, the Stones are flexible. The powerful performance of Houston, which was released at the same time, was also impressive, but the speedy performance almost a year later was also exceptional. Mick is in top form here, but the momentum of the whole band is simply amazing, as if they are showing off their best form. If you think about it, it has been two weeks since the Beacon Theater show recorded in the movie “SHINE A LIGHT”, and the room after finishing a big job is overflowing from the beginning. “She Was Hot” and other songs are so perfect that they are reminiscent of that. Furthermore, the first half of the show, where maniacal repertoires such as “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”, “Loving Cup” which is also reminiscent of a movie, and Keith’s “Connection” are played one after another, is quite attractive. However, the highlight of the first half is rather “Streets Of Love” from “A BIGGER BANG”. Mick’s passionate singing at the ending is really amazing. The Stones are in top form here. In the fall of 2006, a year has passed since the start, and it was the third time for the “A BIGGER BANG” tour to visit the United States, so the set list and composition have been changed significantly, which is also a big attraction. After all, “Miss You” was removed from the regular and “Under My Thumb” was played instead. The performance was also excellent. And “She’s So Cold”, which was also played in Houston a year ago, is played in the correct composition here (laughs), so you can enjoy comparing them. After “Paint It Black” in the second half of the show, Mick and Keith each seemed to become unstable, but such happenings were no problem. Everything was overcome with the momentum of the day, so it was refreshing. And at the end, it was a very fast performance, and Charlie ended up hitting it freely with a good finale called “Satisfaction”. Oddly enough, two titles of the best sound sources from the “A BIGGER BANG” tour will be released at the same time, but the powerful Houston and the speedy Atlantic City, both of which have really great sound quality and performance content, this is a great performance!
