Description

This is the definitive super high quality stereo soundboard title that recorded the first day of the New Jersey performance on November 5, 1981. There must have been many enthusiasts who were eagerly waiting for the reappearance of this day, even among the multi-track recording rough mixes of the 1981 US tour released nearly 10 years ago. It was also the day that the movie “LET’S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER” was recorded, and it was also adopted for the live album “STILL LIFE” and radio broadcast. And above all, “Down The Road Apiece”, one of the biggest rare repertoires on the 1981 tour, was revived for the first time since the beginning of the tour. First of all, it was the day when a mono PA out soundboard was unearthed and enthusiasts were delighted, but as mentioned at the beginning, the multi-track recording of the rough mix for radio broadcasting was of a quality that easily exceeded that, and the appeal of being heard in clear and official level stereo was too great. However, when this recording was distributed on the “CONCERT VAULT” site, even when the song “Under My Thumb” started, “Hang Fire” was overlapping the latter half of “A Train” from beginning to end, and finally “Slave” was playing, which was the sound of the normal version of “TATTOO YOU” that seemed to be a problem when creating the rough mix. These were mixed up until the beginning of “When The Whip Comes Down”, which irritated the enthusiasts, saying “Of all things, the trouble occurred on the day I wanted to hear it the most…”. However, fortunately, the fact was that the parts containing these problems could be covered by “STILL LIFE”. This editing solved a big problem, but to make things complicated, the value of the rough mix itself was also retained because “STILL LIFE” replaced the vocals in part of the previous “Under My Thumb”. Therefore, the thorough content, which included the original Mick vocals “Under My ~” from the original PA out sound source as a bonus, attracted even more popularity. Thus, since “EAST RUTHERFORD 1981 1ST NIGHT” (formerly “NEW JERSEY 1981 1ST NIGHT”) was a very well-made album even at the time of its release, no major changes were made to it for this re-release. Even Graf Zeppelin, who overhauled it again this time, only made minor adjustments. Also, by starting with the “STILL LIFE” version, it has the advantage of being easy to compare the difference between the finished mix and the rough mix. The track switches from “When The Whip Comes Down” to the rough mix, and while the previous song was a finished product that was fully adjusted as a live album, this song has a vivid texture and the balance is literally rough, which makes the difference very clear. In this song, the balance of the backing vocals sung by keyboardist Ian McLagan is extremely large. Also, at the beginning of “Miss You,” Mick’s rhythm guitar starts to sound really loud (and then the volume is hastily turned down), which is also interesting, but only in a rough mix. And the Stones’ performance was very hot that day. Great performances popped out everywhere, following the Stones’ law that the voltage rises when recording begins. Mick sings with great energy, and the band also reaches its first peak with “Just My Imagination.” It was probably the best timing to play “Down The Road Apiece” after a long time. Compared to the same song at the beginning of the tour on the popular “BUFFALO 1981,” it’s like a different band (lol). It’s amusing to see Mick get the composition wrong in “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” because he’s too powerful, and it’s also fascinating to see Tina Turner jump in and duet with Mick on “Honky Tonk Women.” And Charlie’s drums are hot in “Jumping Jack Flash” and “Satisfaction”! Moreover, now the meaning of every hit he hits here resonates deeply. And the fact that these scenes can be heard with peace of mind thanks to the excellent sound quality is a big plus. The Stones are always excited when it comes to recording. The first day of East Rutherford, which was a particularly popular performance and one of the most popular multi-track rough mixes in 1981, is literally a long-awaited re-appearance! REMASTER & CHECKED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN (Remaster Check Memo) Phase correction only. The beginning has been improved, but there seems to be no change after that, as the gap is not large to begin with. The volume has been adjusted slightly overall. Brendan Byrne Arena, East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA 1981 5th November 1981 STEREO SBD Disc 1 (65:24) 1. Take The A Train 2. Under My Thumb 3.
