Description
While the situation remains uncertain, the Rolling Stones’ live activities for 2026 have been cancelled. This means that the Stones’ most recent stage performance was in Ridgedale in 2024. Perhaps fearing that this might be the Stones’ last live performance, Daspyknows has now released his own recording of the Ridgedale show. Speaking of Ridgedale, a superb audience recording called “RIDGEDALE 2024” was released in real time, but it’s worthwhile that he has released this one again. It’s surprising to find that this is an even more superb audience recording than that one, and once again, the skills of a taper who releases later are on full display. The only thing that was cut was the MC after “Gimme Shelter,” but this has been neatly filled in from “RIDGEDALE 2024” for this release. Just listening to the sound effects before the Stones appear, the sound image is incredibly close. As expected of Daspyknows, releasing this a year and a half after the live show is not for nothing. This is not only an absolutely superb audience recording, but also of a quality that absolutely deserves to be released. I can guarantee that not only die-hard fans but also beginners can enjoy listening to this with ease. Moreover, the 2024 tour was significant because it was held in support of the new album “HACKNEY DIAMONDS,” which has already become a masterpiece, and the sense of the Stones being alive and active, which is rare in recent Stones tours, is truly wonderful. The power of the performance that resulted from this was immeasurable. That impression remains unchanged even now. And yet, the unprecedented pattern of increasing the Keith corner to three songs midway through the tour, and the change of temporarily not playing “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” are now fond memories. The fact that there were Stones-like changes throughout the tour may have further enhanced its evaluation. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that 2024 was perhaps the best tour in recent years, and the performance on the final day was truly magnificent. “RIDGEDALE 2024,” which captured that performance in the highest sound quality, is also truly wonderful. The audience recording, with its even better sound quality, conveys the brilliance of the performance that day even more effectively. In fact, the sound image is so close that it feels almost too real. The best moment of this final day of the best tour was undoubtedly when the new songs from ‘HACKNEY DIAMONDS’ were played one after another. While “Let It Bleed” and “Street Fighting Man,” played before that, were the highlights of the day, it was the new songs that truly shone. First of all, the energetic performance of “Whole Wide World” was overwhelming. It felt like we were witnessing the pinnacle of the Stones’ performance on the final day of the tour. The subsequent performance of “Mess It Up” was also breathtaking, with its solid performance. These two songs alone make it a truly wonderful day, and the overwhelming quality of this Daspyknows recording also stands out. This outstanding recording quality also highlights the quietness of Keith’s corner (laughs), making it the most enjoyable listening experience. The sound of “Sympathy For The Devil” and “Honky Tonk Women,” which follow his segment, is incredibly close right from the intro, truly soundboard quality. And the incident during “Paint It Black,” which caused a stir at the time, where Keith had to change his guitar and they ended up jamming to fill the gap, sounds even more realistic.
