Description

The highly popular Graf Zeppelin-supervised multi-track soundboard recording series of the 1981 US tour, this time covering the second day of the Landover concert in December. First of all, this work was released in 2013 under the title “LARGO 1981 2ND NIGHT” and the venue credit was “Capitol Center Arena, Largo”, but for this re-release, the place name in the title was changed to Landover. In addition, the venue name was changed to “Capitol Center, Landover”. Indeed, Largo and Landover are both in Prince George’s County, Maryland, so they are often confused, and as a result, the notation of Capitol Center is mixed up in the credits of each artist’s items and fan sites. However, the venue actually exists in Landover, and that was corrected for this release. And since its release in 2013, it has been highly praised as a sound source with both rich sound quality and performance, but since the sound quality was already at an official level, there was no need to make any further changes this time. Rather, the crackling noise that occurred between some songs has been removed, making it even more refined. Also, the cut that occurs in “Let Me Go,” which was a regular event in the 1981 tour multi-track series of sound sources, was made smoother by converting the previously circulated PA out mono sound board into a pseudo-stereo and filling it in, and the cut after the end of the show was patched after mixing the cheers of the radio broadcast version with the same sound source, and the cut after the end of “She’s So Cold” was carefully adjusted to fill in the gaps using both the PA out and the audience on the same day, which was a process that received great acclaim when it was released in 2013. Although “Let Me Go” was given the honor of being included in the live album “STILL LIFE” and used for radio broadcasts, it became clear from this sound source that the parts other than the singing were finely shortened and edited, mainly the interlude, due to the album’s concept of “packing it into one LP,” and Mick’s singing was re-recorded. Indeed, when you listen to the real vocals here, Mick seems to be out of breath (especially in the first half of the song) as he sings while running around the stadium, so it’s no wonder he re-recorded it. As for the performance, there were only 10 days left until the big stage in Hampton, and it was a great performance that stood out even in December, when high-quality performances full of speed were mass-produced. However, the Stones’ performance was unstable several times in the intro of “She’s So Cold” after the noise that seemed to be coming from the guitar shield from the end of “Beast Of Burden” to the beginning of “Waiting On A Friend”. In the end, there was an incident where Keith played the first note of the intro of “Start Me Up” wrong, but everything was overcome with momentum and there was no problem from there, and the high level of perfection that can be said to be unique to December. And among the series of radio rough mix sound sources that appeared in 2013, it is the best in terms of the vivid texture and presence of the guitar. This is because it captures the tones of both Keith and Ronnie with a very rough and vivid texture, and the two sounds have a tremendous presence on the left and right. Therefore, even in places where the sound output of each should be adjusted a little more to match the wabi-sabi of the performance for live albums and radio broadcasts, the sounds of the two guitars are pushed to the front, and you can enjoy the perfect stereo separation unique to multi-tracks. In addition, in songs like “When The Whip Comes Down,” not only is the right side of Keith and the left side of Ronnie clearly separated with an anchor stone balance, but unlike the two, the rhythm guitar by Mick, who has a tone that sounds like it’s directly on the amp, sounds solid from the center, and the balance is exquisite. There have been days with such a balance in the rough mix sound sources of the 1981 tour that have been released so far, but please enjoy the excellent stereo sound board that has a more realistic guitar band feeling than other days in terms of good separation and vividness of tone, along with the invincible performance in front of Hampton! Remastering memo Phase correction (although it doesn’t change much,,) Volume balance adjustment. 1. The volume of the right channel has been strengthened from the end of Disc 1. No EQ processing has been applied (there was no problem with the bandwidth balance to begin with). The harsh noise that occurs on the right channel between songs has been removed (Let Me Go and Hang Fire, etc.).
