Description

The masterpiece “1969” was released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones’ 1969 US tour. It was a huge bestseller as a masterpiece that compiled the soundboard material that existed sporadically from the tour other than the official “GET YER YA-YA’S OUT!” in the form of an actual set list. Its easy-to-understand and excellent sound quality as a soundboard album has not diminished its popularity to this day, and the long-awaited reissue will be realized in response to requests from enthusiasts who wanted it to be reissued…or rather, to be released as a standard item that is always available. However, a simple reissue is not the art. Therefore, this time, under the supervision of Graf Zeppelin, the noise and uneven volume scattered everywhere were meticulously adjusted. This is an upgraded release that further improves the completeness of the soundboard album, which was already easy to listen to. Unlike “GET YER YA-YA’S OUT!” (hereafter referred to as “GYYYO”), which was an overdubbing and editing contest, the secret to its popularity is that you could enjoy genuine live performances on a high-quality soundboard. The main source is the audio from the movie “GIMME SHELTER”. The main feature in the video is Madison Square Garden, which can now be heard in full-length versions in “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1969 DAY 1” and “DAY 2”, but the parts that overlap with them have been given a more solid stereo mixing, which makes this a “different mix”. This means that its value has not yet decreased. Except for some parts, the audio on “DAY 1” and “DAY 2” is basically mono, and it is possible that it is not multi-track like “GYYYO”, but rather the audio recorded in mono by the “GIMMEBSHELTER” film crew is the source. In that respect, all MSG sound sources here are recorded in stereo except for “Little Queenie” from the first show on the 28th and “Carol” from the second show. They are also in a state without overdubbing, which is why their value has not decreased yet. And above all, even beginners can enjoy them with peace of mind. Therefore, since most of the tracks are of official level sound quality, there were very few parts that required major overhauls this time. Rather, it could be said that it was only fine-tuning. MSG is a masterpiece among masterpieces on the 1969 tour, which has already established an unshakable position among enthusiasts. The many wonderful performances heard there are compiled with the best sound quality and superb editing. Taking advantage of the overdubbing, Mick’s singing was overly strained, and Keith’s backing vocals, who only sang on “Honky Tonk Women” on the actual stage, were very active on “Jumping Jack Flash” and “Street Fighting Man” in “GYYYO”, which is quite comical, and when you listen to the live take of the original live performance compiled in this title, the unnaturalness of “GYYYO” becomes even more noticeable. Another big attraction that led to high evaluation is the substantial number of bonus tracks. Among them, “Carol”, which was recorded as a bonus video on the VHS version of “GIMME SHELTER”, and other precious sound sources that were originally official releases, were carefully compiled, and the fact that they were all soundboard recordings is also the secret to their popularity. The last recorded sound of Detroit was filmed by a local TV station using a black and white handy video camera that was just starting to be circulated at the time, and it is said that it was later broadcast on the news, but for that reason, the mono sound quality, which is more noticeable than other sound sources, has been fine-tuned this time. However, since it was the stage three days before MSG, the performance was also excellent, and Taylor played some amazing phrases in “Satisfaction”. This masterpiece, which brings together the dark and wild performance unique to the 1969 tour, which was corrected in the official “GYYYO”, with the same stereo soundboard quality as any other, has been re-released with a different title. The title, which was unpopular last time because it was too simple (lol), has been changed to “STONED 1969”, which is more like the 1969 tour. If you want to listen to the 1969 US tour on a soundboard other than “GYYYO”, start with this! (Remastering memo) Phase correction (especially the third track “Carol”). The ninth track “Little Queenie” was originally pseudo-stereo processed for this title. Volume adjustments have been made in various places (from the beginning to the 7th track and tracks 14 and 15), and other small noises and high frequency noises have been removed.
