Maniacs are astonished! The world’s first appearance of the 2003 Olympia high-quality in-ear monitor sound source! The Rolling Stones’ 2003 theater gig at the Olympia in Paris was officially filmed and later recorded as the main feature of the theater part in “FOUR FLICKS”. Since the finished product can be used as a normal live soundboard album, the best-selling “PARIS OLYMPIA 2003” realized a complete live recording by filling in the three unrecorded songs from the audience recording. Furthermore, Olympia produced the best audience items that were used to supplement the album in real time, but behind the scenes, maniacs kept secret the in-ear monitor recording of Olympia. Just as a similar sound source was produced from the Japanese performance in the same year, this tour was a turning point for the production of in-ear monitor sound sources from the Stones’ live performances. However, it seems that Olympia’s official release with the video in the form mentioned above had been realized, and it had been left lying around without being distributed until now. This is an in-ear monitor recording of Olympia that we obtained exclusively for this release, and it is really interesting. Due to the nature of the sound source, Mick’s voice is generally strong and the performance is pushed to the back. Moreover, as can be seen from the fact that the percussion sound he played towards the microphone at the end of “Dance” is loud, it seems that the main recording was intercepted from Mick’s wireless microphone. Mick was not yet wearing in-ear monitors on the “LICKS” tour (they were introduced in 2005). However, when Keith sings the two songs, his voice becomes distant, and yet Bernard Fowler’s backing chorus can be clearly heard in “Before They Make Me Run,” so it is possible that the recording was intercepted from the in-ear monitors of the chorus corps, such as Lisa Fischer or Blondie Chaplin. In any case, there is no doubt that the directness of Mick’s vocals is overwhelming. It is a different dimension of vividness from the live album “PARIS OLYMPIA 2003” organized from multi-tracks, and it has a texture that makes it seem as if Mick’s singing voice is pouring directly from your ears to your brain. It is so vivid that you even get the illusion that you are on stage with Mick at Olympia. However, it is an in-ear recording. Moreover, recording technology was still developing in 2003, so there are many skips. That was also the reason why this recording was kept secret until now, but for this release, the “PARIS OLYMPIA 2003” sound board has been converted to mono and then supplemented, making it surprisingly easy to listen to without any discomfort. For “Rip This Joint”, which does not have a sound board released, the problem areas of the in-ear monitors were adjusted using the previous audience recording. It is a meticulous finish that could only be achieved in 2024, not in 2003. And above all, the incredible singing voice of Mick, which approaches the listener as it is. The engine was at full throttle from the opening “Start Me Up”, and then it was all crisp and crisp. Although it was a recent tour, the “LICKS” tour was 20 years ago. It was amazing to see Mick, who was already in his 60s, singing such great songs. After deciding to shout with high tension, he carefully sang “Worried About You” and “That’s How Strong My Love Is”. At this point, it even seems that the unique balance of Mick’s voice being overwhelming rather than the performance is a big attraction. Another advantage is that, unlike “PARIS OLYMPIA 2003”, “Rip This Joint” is mainly Mick, but you can enjoy it closer to the sound board. Because it is one of the great performances of the day. 20 years later, Olympia’s in-ear monitor recording suddenly appeared. Please enjoy Mick’s singing, which is too vivid and yet at its best, to your heart’s content. Olympia, Paris, France 11th July 2003 IEM(from Original Masters) Disc 1 (64:36) 1. Intro. 2.
