Description
It would have been fine if overdubbing had been added to the live album “GOT LIVE IF YOU WANT IT!”, but even a take with cheers added to the studio recording was inserted. Instead of the live album “GOT LIVE IF YOU WANT IT!”, which was released in Honolulu in 1966, this performance has been treasured as a genuine live recording from Brian Jones’ time. Since it was a recording broadcast on the radio in Honolulu, when the LP was released in the 1980s under the name “SO MUCH YOUNGER THAN TODAY” by THE SWINGIN’ PIG (by a different person from the CD label that would later become popular with “ULTRA RARE TRAX”), the wild and energetic performance drew great acclaim. However, the sound quality of the LP is not so good because it uses the air check recording from that time. Nevertheless, it is highly praised in fan club reviews and the like, being described as “the original punk”. In addition, the colors of the jacket and record vary depending on the pressing of the LP, and the first pressings with fluorescent pink jackets and red vinyls were sold for tens of thousands in the 80s, which is a nostalgic memory of the bubble era. However, the fact that it was an air check made it difficult to make it into a CD. However, exactly 30 years ago (it’s been that long!), a recording from the so-called pre-FM stage was unearthed and made a dramatic upgrade suitable for the CD era. I also miss the release of the title “SOLD OUT!”, which added reverb-like effects with the beginning of the heyday of CDs in mind. Of course, versions without any gimmicks were later released, such as the VGP label’s “BILL WYMAN’S BLACK BOX,” which became the definitive version, but these previous releases were once dubbed onto VHS and spread (in the past, trading where audio was transferred to VHS instead of cassettes was also common), and there was a low-pitched hum noise typical of VHS between songs. There were also problems with the sound cutting out in some places. Unlike the past, this time we obtained a higher-level master that did not go through VHS. It is obvious when you listen to the intervals between songs, and you will be surprised by the straightforward and natural sound quality without hum noise. There are also some small sound cuts that seem to have arisen from the deterioration of the sound source itself. For example, Graf Zeppelin meticulously adjusted the sound skips that occurred at the end of “The Last Time” or when the host said “Honolulu police department” in the intro. Despite the dramatic upgrade in sound quality in the early 1990s, the harsh problems that were found here and there have finally been resolved. Therefore, although the sound source has been well-known for its performance since long ago, the high value of being able to enjoy the live performance of the Stones, who are rushing ahead at this young age, without any tricks, is still alive and well. Not only is this a valuable record of the stage during this period when Brian’s presence was already strong, such as “Lady Lane” and “Mother’s Little Helper,” but due to issues with the recording balance, Brian’s guitar sound is louder than Keith’s on “The Last Time” (laughs). However, it is a live performance from the Brian period with a short playing time, and the space on the disc was used to record a radio broadcast from Sydney five months ago. This was also a hot topic on CD-R as an aircheck sound source that was released online a few years ago. However, when it was uploaded, a hard texture was created, so Graf Zeppelin also adjusted it to restore the vintage feel of the original aircheck. Since the sound quality was originally analog-like, the thorough overhaul made it much easier to listen to. Of course, the sound quality is inferior to Honolulu, but it is interesting because the atmosphere of the live performance and the set list are completely different even though they were the same year. This day was the first day of the Australian tour, but it was captured that Mick’s voice was not in good condition. This is particularly evident in “She Said Yeah.” In addition, in an era without stage monitors, they had to perform amid screams from fans just like the Beatles, and the scene where Keith got the timing of the backing chorus wrong in “Get Off Of My Cloud” and the performance became chaotic is vividly captured. And in “Satisfaction”, fans came up on stage, and the performance proceeded in a blank state where Mick did not sing the first chorus, so it is a document of a stage with many happenings, but on the other hand, the live version of “The Spider And The Fly” is full of highlights such as the looseness that foreshadows the later rock feeling of the Stones. As a bonus, the Melbourne performance one week later is recorded. This is a precious Pre-FM sound source unearthed in the 2000s with VGP “DO YOU LIKE ROLLING STONES?”. The extremely valuable “Play With Fire” electric version and “That’s How Strong My Love Is” have been treasured as sound sources that can be heard in the highest sound quality, and have been produced many times with different titles, but this time it is remastered from the main deity. Although it is merely a bonus, this is a full disc of genuine live recordings from Brian’s 1966 period. Of course, the title is “SO MUCH YOUNGER THAN TODAY” in honor of the original Honolulu release, and the jacket is the same as the LP, but the pink jacket of the first release doesn’t look good (lol), so we deliberately used the cream-colored jacket of the second release. And in the last recorded radio interview from their stay in Australia, the interviewer said, “The really swingin’ pig!” If you want to hear a genuine live performance from Brian’s period, this is the one to start with. (Remastering memo) The main recording is the 1966 Honolulu performance. Also includes performances in Sydney and Melbourne in February of the same year. A 1966 live collection that can fit on one CD, lasting over 79 minutes. The CD title is also a homage to the title of the analog LP (TSP 012) of the old Honolulu performance. Section 1: Honolulu, July 28, 1966 – A good master with less hum noise compared to the previous release. The frequent small sound cuts and sound cuts during the introduction have been corrected as much as possible. In particular, the sound cuts that occurred during the songs “The Last Time” and “Mother’s Little Helper” were not easily pinched and processed, but rather the dropouts were restored without discomfort by adjusting the band. Also, some parts were cut in the previous VGP due to the dislike of sound cuts during the introduction. (About 0.6 seconds are missing from the VGP at around 0:17 on track 1 of this record) Section 2: Sydney, February 18, 1966 (1st Show) Hum noise removal and band adjustment make it much clearer. Also, since the sound was quite digital with the hiss removed, EQ processing was performed to return it to an analog texture. The buzzing sound that occurs intermittently around 3:15 has been removed as naturally as possible (the processing marks are less noticeable than on the previously released version). Section 3: Melbourne February 24, 1966 (2nd Show) – Remastered old sound source. Some hum noise has been removed, making it clearer, but there is no big difference. It has always been slightly metallic.
