Description

The famous Kinney’s original cassette has been newly discovered. This time, it’s Roger Waters’ “THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR 1984”! Speaking of 1984, it was the most luxurious tour of Roger’s career. In particular, in the 1984 edition, they formed a four-way formation with boss Roger and Eric Clapton, and were flanked by great names such as Mel Collins of KING CRIMSON and the late Michael Kamen, who was passionate about the fusion of symphony and rock. It was truly a dream team tour. This work is a full live album that allows you to experience such a tour with Kinney’s miracle sound. This is the best audience recording of “June 21, 1984 Earl’s Court Performance”. Before we get to the sound we’re interested in, let’s first look at the show position. Let’s look back at the overall picture of Roger’s first solo tour. ●1984《The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking” released on April 30th》・June 16th-July 6th: Europe (9 performances) ←★Coco★・July 17th-31st: North America #1 (10 Performance) ●1985 [Clapton not participating] March 19th – April 14th: North America #2 (17 performances) This is the complete picture of “THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR”. Clapton only participated in 1984, but this work is in its early stages. This was the fourth performance of the “Europe” leg, and the first concert of the UK tour. Records of such shows have been known for a long time, and are familiar with “HITCH HIKER’S GUIDE TO EUROPE” etc. Of course, this work is a completely different recording, and it is the best master created from the newly discovered original cassette of the prestigious Kinney. Since the LEM edition of the traditional sound source was also a masterpiece recording representing the tour, I am not sure whether I can casually declare that it has “updated No. 1”, but I would like to say so. First and foremost, it’s clear. A slight hall sound is also picked up, but this is transparent. Although you can feel the presence of the ringing, it feels transparent, the core of the performance sound stands out sharply, even the outline, and the details are extremely delicate. Those who have experienced Kinney’s masterpiece will understand that the sound does not muddy the clarity, but rather adds shine. Of course, the core that cuts through the middle is strong, and there is no sense of sparseness that is common in audience recordings. And the neat beauty that that sound creates. You can feel the thickness because it’s not just the core, the treble has endless extension, and the midrange is richer and more colorful. The beauty of Mel Collins’ saxophone is especially exquisite, and you can even see the metallic luster of the brass. Of course, Clapton’s guitar, which is the key, is also the same, increasing the sweetness of the tone. It’s already glossy. And the deep bass is also a key point. If you only listen to this work, you may think that it is well recorded, but when you compare it with the traditional recording (LEM board) mentioned above, the difference is obvious. It’s completely different from the traditional version, where the bass peaks were loud in places, and it’s plump and beautiful. In fact, although the LEM version is superior in terms of bass attack and lack of distance, the overall musical beauty of this work is far superior. Please don’t get me wrong here, but the traditional recording of the LEM edition is a classic that has been released by other labels as well. This is a masterpiece among the masterpieces that have represented the tour so far. However, this work is full of beauty that sets it apart from that famous recording. It is truly a superb recording unique to the prestigious Kinney, who pursued the “beauty unique to the audience”. What is depicted with such a sound is a full show based on the entire “Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking”. I’m sure you’re already familiar with it, but the “FLOYD number played by Clapton” is also a key point, so let’s summarize it here. ●Part 1: PINK FLOYD (16 songs)・Mystery: Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun・Atomic Heart Mother: If・Madness: Money・Flame: Welcome To The Machine/Have A Cigar/Wish You Were Here・Animals: Pigs On The Wing Pt. 1・The Wall: In The Flesh/Nobody Home/Hey You・Final Cut: The Gunner’s Dream ●Part 2: Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking・12 songs in total ●Encore: PINK FLOYD ( 2 songs) Madness: Brain Damage (recorded the next day) / Eclipse (recorded the next day)… and so on. In fact, this first day in the UK is also known as “the show that had no encore,” but in this work, it is supplemented from the “June 22nd Earl’s Court performance” the next day. We have reproduced the format of the show as it should have been (there are some previous releases in full format with no credits, but there is no encore originally. All of these previous shows have been treated in the same way). The supplementary parts are also traced back to the original master of the well-known recording from “EARLS COURT 1984 DAY 2”, and have been completed with a focus on “the very best”. And the wonderful thing about the performance that spins such a full set… After all, Clapton is one of the main characters. “The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking” is even more vivid than the album, but what’s noteworthy is the FLOYD number. The solo of “Wish You Were Here” uses a Roland guitar synthesizer, “Nobody Home” has phrases flowing naturally into Roger’s musical world, and “The Gunner’s Dream” has unique phrases dancing in the second half of the song. Of course, Kamen also incorporates phrases throughout his career that have explored the fusion of film music and rock, and on “Hey You”, Mel’s saxophone also shows off with a long lead. You can fully enjoy such a gorgeous ensemble with the crystal clear Kinney sound. One of the best masterpieces in “THE PROS AND CONS OF HITCH HIKING TOUR”, which is packed with masterpieces and masterpieces… No, it is the birth of a masterpiece that is the best in terms of “audience beauty”. A beautiful live album that seems to have staked the prestige of the prestigious Kinney.
