Description

Radio K.A.O.S. is Roger Waters’ masterpiece, a concept album writer. The complete studio album is now available. Radio K.A.O.S. is Roger’s second solo album, produced after The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. It was a masterpiece that showed off the concept maker’s talents, but it is also somewhat underrated due to its complex story. There was a reason for this. The concept of Radio K.A.O.S. was originally conceived as a longer story. However, the record company at the time stuck to “LP size” instead of CD. As a result, it was cut out significantly and the story became incomplete. For example, “Going to Live in L.A.” is an essential song to the story, but it was cut in its entirety. As a result, while the A-side shows the band in England, the B-side suddenly shows the band moving to LA without any explanation. To make up for this lack of story, Roger wrote a synopsis in the liner notes, but he was criticized for not being able to fully express it through sound. This work recreates the “true form” of “RADIO K.A.O.S.” Of course, there have been fan-made albums with similar concepts in the past, but this work is on a different level. After all, it was produced by a team of overseas researchers who produced PINK FLOYD’s masterpiece “FOREVER AND EVER.” In addition to the album, they gathered all kinds of materials and scrutinized the story down to the last word of the lyrics and materials. After being assembled in detail, it is a perfect “musical work”. It is a complete story album of “65:03”, far exceeding the original album of “41:24”. The main materials are official works. These are the original CD and various single tracks of “RADIO K.A.O.S.”, “KAOS VIDEO EP”, the soundtrack “THE WIND BLOWS”, and “THE BANDED RADIO KAOS”. “THE BANDED RADIO KAOS” was produced for broadcasting stations and is a rare version with Jim Ladd’s narration cut out. Of course, these official tracks were not simply rearranged, but “Roger’s original ideas” were extracted from various materials and boldly edited within each track. For example, “Radio Waves” and “Home” are about one minute longer, and conversely, “Sunset Strip” is a short track due to the connection. Furthermore, their extraordinary attention to detail is thorough down to each of Billy’s lines. As I wrote earlier as “main material”, the lines that are missing in the official product are re-created using software called “SPEECH!”. This is software for the 80’s computer “Commodore 64” that was actually used in the official work “RADIO K.A.O.S.” The parts were created by going back to the actual production site. This alone will give you an idea of the design, but for all you research-minded enthusiasts, we will also introduce the details of each song. We hope you will read this while listening to the true “RADIO K.A.O.S.”, the ultimate album. ● “Get Back To Radio” * Recorded from the newly recorded 12-inch single “THE TIDE IS TURNING”. ● “Radio Waves” is a fusion of the original CD version and the extended version of the 12-inch single. The middle section was created from the instrumental verse and the different ending that were in the extended version. ● “Who Needs Information” Added lines from “VIDEO KAOS” to the original CD version. ● “Folded Flags” * Recorded from the newly recorded soundtrack “THE WIND BLOWS”. ● “Me Or Him” and “The Powers That Be” These two songs are roughly the same as on the original CD. However, the track divisions have changed. ● “Going To Live In LA” *From the newly recorded 12-inch single “RADIO WAVES”. ● “The Fish Report With A Beat” (newly recorded) From “VIDEO KAOS”. ● “Sunset Strip” From the original CD, but the “THE BANDED RADIO KAOS” version without Jim Ladd’s narration is used at the end, leading to the next song. ● “Molly’s Song” *Written for the newly recorded album, but no studio recording remains. The live version from the single “WHO NEEDS INFORMATION” is included. ● “Home” The percussion at the beginning is short on the original CD, so it is extended on “THE BANDED RADIO KAOS” and Jim Ladd’s narration is added from “VIDEO KAOS”. ●”Four Minutes” – Jim Ladd’s narration from “VIDEO KAOS” has been added. ●”The Tide Is Turning (After Live Aid)” – Original CD, but new lines from Billy’s “SPEECH!” have been added. ●”Pipes and Drums” *New recording The epilogue includes “Hilda’s Dream” from the soundtrack “THE WIND BLOWS”. However, since “Hilda” is a character in “When the Wind Blows”, a line from “Folded Flags” “There must be more to life than lucky strikes and some unlucky ones, and folded flags, and pipes, and drums” is quoted. ★The 2017 version of Roger’s “Radio K.A.O.S.” was released by the producers of Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains The Same Expanded” and Pink Floyd’s “Forever & Ever” to commemorate 30 years since the original release. Making full use of video, 12-inch, soundtrack, and other takes, this album has been reconstructed to recreate the true “Radio K.A.O.S.” that Roger originally aimed for. This is a must-listen album for true fans. It is of extremely high quality and has a smart finish. Highly recommended. A variation on the Radio KAOS album that is more true to the original concept than the released version. This is more of what Roger had in mind… (but the record company restricted him to the length of one album) (65:11) 01. Get Back To Radio 02. Radio Waves 03. Who Needs Information 04. Folded Flags 05. Me Or Him 06. The Powers That Be 07. Going To Live In L.A 08. The Fish Report With A Beat 09. Sunset Strip 10. Molly’s Song 11. Home 12. Four Minutes 13. The Tide Is Turning (After Live Aid) 14. Pipes And Drums
