Description
Roger Waters’ 2002 performance in Japan, where the FLOYD number by the originator resonated. Two original recordings of the miraculous tour, which will probably be the last in Japan, will be released at the same time. Both of those two works are live albums from Osaka performances, and this work is the second of them. This is a superb audience recording of the “March 26, 2002: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall” performance. I’ll leave an overview of their activities at that time in the sister work “DEFINITIVE OSAKA 2002 1st Night”, so I’ll just summarize the collection here.・March 25th: Osaka Employees’ Pension Center “DEFINITIVE OSAKA 2002 1st Night” ・March 26th: Osaka Employees’ Pension Center ←★This work★ ・March 28th: Tokyo International Forum “COMPLETE FORUM NIGHTS” ・March 30 Sun: Tokyo International Forum “COMPLETE FORUM NIGHTS” March 31st: Tokyo International Forum “COMPLETE FORUM NIGHTS” Total of 5 performances. In this way, the two works released simultaneously this week are sister works that permanently preserve the same venue 2DAYS in Osaka, but furthermore, the show is not the only sister work. As I mentioned in the commentary for “1st Night,” these two works were recorded by a master artist in Osaka at the time who was producing masterpieces that will be preserved forever. These are also two works that such masters recorded on consecutive days with the same equipment and at the same venue. In fact, the sound of this work is exquisite, as if drawn in a picture. Although the textures such as the snare tone and vivid applause have the taste of audience recording, the crystal clearness, vividness of detail, and on-tone texture are FM broadcast quality. If you close your eyes, you can see the space of the Osaka Employees’ Pension Center, and if you focus on headphones, you can see each member’s facial expressions and even their hands in your mind. It is truly a peerless beautiful recording. This would be fine if it was just this work, but this time two works will be released at the same time. Normally, I would like you to enjoy them together, but if I were to point out the differences based on the selection criteria, I would say that “1st Night” specializes in “sparkle,” and the second night (this work) can be said to be “rich.” Is it? For example, the base. The atmosphere of “1st Night” is crystal clear, so the attack sound is easily missed, and the series creates a vivid line. On the other hand, in this work, you can feel a delicate vibe in the ringing component that follows the attack sound, and you can enjoy a rich sense of groove. To put it another way, the sound of “1st Night” is the type that surprises you with its beauty, and this work is the type that you can comfortably immerse yourself in. As you immerse yourself in the performance, you will notice the fine details that have been recorded so well, and it will further stimulate your concentration…that’s the kind of sound you get. And what is depicted with such a rich sound is a treasure trove of FLOYD numbers that shook the Japanese atmosphere 18 years ago. This tour is also left as the official work “IN THE FLESH: LIVE”, but the Japanese performances are at different times and the sets are different. Let’s compare and organize them here. DISC 1: Part 1・The Wall: In The Flesh/The Happiest Days Of Our Lives/Another Brick In The Wall Part 2/Mother・Final Cut: Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert/Southampton Dock・Animals: Pigs On The Wing Part 1/Dogs・Fire: Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 1-5 (★)/Welcome To The Machine/Wish You Were Here/Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 6-9 (★) DISC 2: Part 2・Mystery: Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun ・Madness (Part 1): Speak To Me/Breathe (In The Air)/Time/Breathe (Reprise)/Money ・Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking: 5:06 AM (Every Stranger’s Eyes)・Shimetsu Yugi: Perfect Sense Part 1/Perfect Sense Part 2/The Bravery Of Being Out Of Range/It’s A Miracle/Amused To Death・Madness (Part 2): Brain Damage/Eclipse DISC 3: Encore The… Wall: Comfortably Numb・New song: Flickering Flame (★) *Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official version “IN THE FLESH: LIVE” or different arrangements. …And in this way, the show has a “two-part + encore” structure. The official edition “IN THE FLESH: LIVE” had “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” forced onto disc 1 in order to fit it into a two-disc set, but this work is divided into sections. Completely recorded as a 3-disc set. The first part (DISC 1) is a selection of the best songs from the latter half of the album, from “Flame” to “Final Cut,” and the second part (DISC 2) is a solo number with a sound switch of “Madness.” This is a show typical of Roger, who values concepts. Among them, the suite “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” is the most notable difference from the official version. In “IN THE FLESH: LIVE”, “Parts 1 to 8” were played at once, but in the Japanese performance, they were separated into “Parts 1 to 5” and “Parts 6 to 9” as per the album. As a result, “Have A Cigar Nuki’s ‘Flame'” will be played in the order of the song. Another highlight is the encore. They also performed their new song “Flickering Flame,” which was also the title of the best album released after coming to Japan. “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON LIVE”, “THE WALL LIVE”, “US + THEM TOUR”…Roger Waters continued to thrill the world with his wonderful tours, but he never came to Japan. Although we cannot guarantee that the newly announced “THIS IS NOT A DRILL” will not come, it will still be difficult. This work is a live album that allows you to experience the best of the scene in 2002, which was a feast of PINK FLOYD numbers when such a one and only solo visit to Japan.
