Description

This rehearsal video was released last week as a gift disc “DRESS REHEARSALS 2017” by our store as the first video, and it was well received. Unfortunately, at the time of release last week, not all the songs were available, and the second half of “Money” and the two following songs “Us and Them” and “Smell the Roses” were not included. However, immediately after the release, these three missing songs appeared on the Internet as a complete version from the same uploader. Not only was the total time extended by 13 minutes and 40 seconds by including all the songs, but the audio was also synchronized from a different master and replaced with a higher grade one, and it was re-released as a version with a very high upper feeling. However, unfortunately, for some reason it was deleted in the blink of an eye, and it is no longer possible to watch it now. This bonus disc was imported before it was deleted and finished into a complete version, and it is the best and only video title that allows you to watch all the songs played on this day! Moreover, this video is not just excellent in image quality and sound. Those who saw the gift disc last week will know that this video is composed of multi-angle shots skillfully connected from multiple (※ I rechecked the recorded footage and estimated it to be at least 7-8) digital cameras or cell phones, and it is completely different from the monotonous one recorded with one camera. For example, Camera 1 is shooting from about the 5th row on the left side of the stage, and you can see the whole stage at a moderate distance, and the scene where dust (?) gathers and becomes the dark side of the moon in “Speak to Me” is captured with goosebump-inducing visual beauty. The sound quality is also excellent, and while the twin bass jumps out with a very thick and clear sound in “One of These Days,” it boasts such precision that it picks up the small sounds coming out around it without being crushed by the bass. From “Time” onwards, the image of Camera 2. The viewpoint changes, and this is recorded from about the 3rd row on the right side of the stage, which is a position that is reversed from the position of Camera 1. The shooting position is closer than camera 1, so the facial expressions of Roger and the other members can be seen clearly even without zooming. For “The Great Gig in the Sky”, camera 3 changes to a perspective from the back seats. It is a distant shot that cannot be compared to cameras 1 and 2, but for this song, the two female vocalists (Jess and Holly) continue to fill the large screen on the back screen, so it is easier to see with a screen this far back, and you realize that you can grasp more visual information than with cameras 1 and 2. For “Welcome to the Machine”, camera 4 appears. This is from the 10th row in the center with a lot of zoom, and Roger and the surrounding area are shown at a very close distance. The camera work, which can only be done by someone who knows the songs well, is also worth watching, and the color development is also unusually good. For “Deja Vu”, camera 1 reappears. With the promotional video for the song playing in the background, Roger’s mid-range singing voice appears with an ultra-clear sound image with zero noise, and the documentary-like footage and sound image will surely take your breath away for a while. “Dogs” begins with Battersea Power Station towering on the back screen, and Camera 1 perfectly captures the magnificent spectacle. It is also worth checking out the two female chorus members hitting the toms in two places in the middle of the song, and it is also nice to be able to understand the ever-changing staging as a gimmick, such as the way a hanging screen suddenly descends from the ceiling and the video plays on the side of the stage. In the middle of this song, there is a scene where Roger, the two female chorus members, and the side guitarists (probably Gus and Jonathan) are wearing fox (coyote?) masks and sitting around a table, which is information that you would never know from the sound alone, which is an advantage that the main CD does not have. And for “Money,” which was cut off halfway on last week’s version, camera 2 (or maybe another camera nearby) is back in action. What’s interesting here is that you can see professional video staff shooting video in the pit space (the passageway/space where cameramen and other people go back and forth to take photos and videos) between the stage and the audience space. It’s likely that the fragmented footage on the official website was recorded with this, but you can also clearly see the official shooting. For “Us and Them,” a new camera 5 appears, filmed with a fixed camera. You can see a huge banner screen falling from above the center of the venue, dividing the venue in two, and you can see that a “wall” of video has been created on the right and left inside the venue. Another feature is that it’s a very stable image because it’s a fixed camera, and you can also check out the console space installed in the center of the venue. And for “Smell the Roses,” which was not included on last week’s version, another camera appears. Camera 6 (upper floor seats on the right side of the stage) perfectly captures Roger singing with one microphone, and here we can see the stage from a new perspective. In “Eclipse,” which returns to camera 1, the camera turns straight up in the middle of the song and follows the lighting from the laser beams above the venue for a while, which is a valuable documentary video that allows us to confirm and verify the lighting of the US + THEM stage in three dimensions. In “Vera,” as can be heard on the CD, Roger calls two female chorus members (probably suddenly) to his side, and you can see them trying out a musical formation with three voices with himself and them. This is also the case with the next song, “Bring the Boys Back Home,” and it is a very interesting scene that shows the high ability of Jess and Holly as singers and performers, who perfectly play their roles despite Roger’s sudden order. Then, in “Comfortably Numb,” another camera 7 appears, and high-quality footage with extensive zoom follows the flow of the song from a new perspective. After the guitar solo, the camera returns to camera 1, showing Dave (Kilmister) being filmed by a professional staff member, but Roger walks through the pit space, where the professional camera is located, shakes hands with the fans in the front row, and then passes by the edge of the stage, staring at the whole performance and checking it out. Even though the show has been highly polished up to this point, there are some scenes that hint at future musical development…. I honestly can’t put into words the joy of seeing and hearing everything in vivid, high-precision live footage. The US+THEM tour has already started on May 26th, and there are sure to be many discoveries to be made by following the stage that will be the starting point of the tour with this footage.
