The big tour since “THE WALL LIVE”, “US+THEM 2017”. The main part of the tour has finally started. Roger Waters has resumed full-scale concert activities, such as appearing in “DESERT TRIP 2016” since last year, but it is only a few performances for the purpose of unveiling. The main role is the latest rock album “IS THIS THE LIFE WE REALLY WANT?”, which was released for the first time in 25 years, and the main part of the tour has just started. This week, the final rehearsal album “DRESS REHEARSALS 2017” prior to the tour will also be released, but this work is a step further into the main part of the tour. It is the first live album. The theme of the new work was a warning to modern society, but the thorough North American tour may also be characteristic of Roger, who has something against the Trump administration. The Louisville performance of this work is the second performance of “North America #1”, which marks the beginning of such a tour. And the biggest point of this work, which contains the very early concerts, is the sound that is superb. As mentioned above, this work contains two types of recordings, but these were made by the same recordist. In fact, this taper has two sets of equipment, and “SOURCE 1 (Disc 1-2)” is recorded using the microphone “AT943s”, and “SOURCE 2 (Disc 3-4)” is recorded using the microphone “Schoeps MK4s”. Of course, the recording position is also the same. Therefore, the balance of the sound and the cheers of the venue are very similar (or almost the same), and you can enjoy the difference in nuances of the two high-end microphones. Both of these types are also of incredible quality. Compared to other bands/artists, the ears of FLOYD enthusiasts are on a different level, but even in that dimension, it is amazing. Initially, we planned to deliver only the one with good sound, but the level was so high that there was no choice, and if I had to say, “SOURCE 1 (Disc 1-2)” is more vivid, and “SOURCE 2 (Disc 3-4)” creates a total “sounding mood”. In any case, neither of them is the sound that one would imagine from a so-called “audience recording”. Of course, the audience’s excitement at the latest Roger’s spectacular show is vividly absorbed, but as soon as the performance begins, the audience listens intently and the superb sound world that you would want to call “official” spreads. Last year’s first report was in Mexico, so it was a loud and enthusiastic frenzy, but there is no need to worry about this work. The latest Roger’s musical world depicted with that quality, “US+THEM 2017” is wonderful… While taking over last year’s “PINK FLOYD Greatest Hits”, five new songs are also played. In particular, “When We Were Young”, “Deja Vu”, “The Last Refugee”, and “Picture That”, which are played in the middle of the show as four songs, are a scene where the “Roger world” that has never been heard before spreads all at once.
