Description
Mike Millard’s latest audience master is a feint (lol) of the pitch-corrected version of The Who’s 1973 LA Forum, which was his first recording, and Rod Stewart’s 1979. As usual, the outstanding quality of Millard explodes with amazing sound quality. Speaking of the 1979 “BLONDES ‘AVE MORE FUN” tour, when Rod was at the height of his stardom, the masterpiece audience “REFLECTION OF LIFE” from the Japanese performance has already been released. In addition, the LA Forum in June that Millard recorded this time was the final performance of the tour, and one of them (date unknown) was filmed as a live video and later released as “LIVE AT THE LOS ANGELES FORUM”, and several takes from June 21st are currently being used in the live best “LIVE 1976-1998”. The reason for this release was that Millard was late for the live performance and missed recording “Hot Legs” and “Born Loose”. Come to think of it, Millard’s recording of 1977, “L.A. FORUM 1977”, was even more incomplete, so it seems that Rod’s stage in the 1970s and Millard were not compatible for some reason. However, the sound quality is still really great this time. The sound of the golden rhythm section of Carmine Appice and Phil Cheng also approaches the listener with a powerful balance. And… don’t worry, this is a recording of a completely different day from the previous live video and live best, even though it was the same LA Forum in June. For example, if you compare the video of “Maggie May”, it’s easy to see that the way Rod speaks at the beginning is completely different. In the first place, this recording is a record of a historic day, the final day of the “BLONDES ‘AVE MORE FUN” tour that began the previous year. If you can hear it in the stable Millard quality, the fact that the first two songs were not included is insignificant. On the final day of such a enthusiastic tour, Rod showed his attachment to the Forum so much that he said, “This is my home,” and the Millard recording conveyed the excitement of the show more than the previous live video. Millard is the only one who could capture Rod’s carnal stage, which was at its peak, so vividly, and yet the call-and-response with the audience that occurs in some songs can be heard without stress, which is an exquisite feature unique to his recordings. Above all, the live video is far from a complete recording, and the best live performances are only a few excerpts. It is also worth noting that this recording is the longest in total. And “Layla” is included in “(I Know) I’m Losing You,” and the golden pattern of 1979, in which “I’m Sexy” is played again for the finale, is perfect. In particular, the ending, which closes with the latter pattern, is a scene that could not be seen in the video, and Millard was amazing again this time in that he realistically conveyed the whole picture of the 1979 show, which could not be fully captured by various official groups.
