Description
Also included in this work is the performance in Japan two years ago. This is an audience recording set of 3 performances “October 31st + November 1st + 2nd 2016 Orchard Hall”. “TOKYO 2016 2ND NIGHT: HAPPY HALLOWEEN” is not only the best video, but also includes two original audience recordings with ultra-high quality audio. Among them, this work was recorded by the recorder of the popular “Voice 2”. That taper recorded not only the second day in Tokyo, but also the entire three days at Orchard Hall. This work is a 6-disc set that spans 3 days with such a “same recording artist, same equipment, same venue” collection. First of all, let’s check the composition of this work with the tour schedule at the time. ・October 24: Osaka Orix Theater ・October 25: Aichi Prefectural Arts Theater ・October 27: Fukuoka Sun Palace ・October 28: Hiroshima Bunka Gakuen HBG Hall ・October 30: NHK Hall ・October 31 Sun: Orchard Hall [Disc 1-2 of this work] ・November 1: Orchard Hall [Disc 3-4 of this work] ・November 2: Orchard Hall [Disc 5-6 of this work] Like this The three days at Orchard Hall are the final three consecutive days of performances. In this work, the full recording is arranged on two discs each. Now, let’s introduce each performance individually. [Disc 1-2: October 31st (2nd day in Tokyo)] First up is the “October 31st” performance, which was Halloween night. In other words, this disc is a live album of the second audio of the DVD “TOKYO 2016 2ND NIGHT: HAPPY HALLOWEEN”. The sound is truly exquisite. Of course, there’s no way it’s a bad recording since they went out of their way to synchronize it and make it into a DVD, but when you listen to it as a live album, you realize once again how beautiful the sound is. Although it is a recording where the sense of distance creates a slight warmth, the atmosphere is elegant and the sound is very glossy. Of course, even within that luster, you can feel fine details, and the image is never blurry. On top of that, the extension of the high range is delicious. It is a recording where you can enjoy the most transparent feeling among the three performances of this work. The sound depicts the party night that could be experienced in “TOKYO 2016 2ND NIGHT: HAPPY HALLOWEEN”. Perhaps because of Halloween, which filled the streets of Shibuya, the performance and singing were more exciting than usual. The enthusiastic applause between songs creates an upbeat mood, and the clapping during the song also has a lively feel to it. This cheerful mood was conveyed to the band, and Ringo shouted “Happy Halloween!” as soon as “Matchbox” ended, and during the MC he said, “(pointing to a costume contest in town) America isn’t like this.” . Even just a live album without a scene, you can feel the joy of a festival-like show. [Disc 3-4: November 1st (3rd day in Tokyo)] Next was our first “November 1st” performance. So far, we have introduced several live albums, including the 2CD “TOKYO 2016 FINAL NIGHT”, but on this day there were none. After two years, the Orchard Collection was perfected. And the sound is so wonderful that you forget how precious it is. The quality and feel are very similar to Disc 1-2, and it’s really full of flavor. Of course, the subtle nuances created by the different recording positions are different, and on this second day, the spread of the sound and the sharpness of the core are outstanding. Although the faint venue acoustics sucked in a little more than the other two performances, the core that penetrates through the middle is extremely solid. It is a type of recording where you can feel clear details while immersing yourself in the atmosphere. The show drawn with that sound is also delicious. While continuing the fun mood from the night before, I felt like my concentration on the song and performance had increased significantly. Although it’s relaxed, it’s not too crazy, and the performance and the melodies of famous songs get you excited. Although it has the least amount of surprise elements, it is a show that seems to have a good point. [Disc 5-6: November 2nd (last day in Japan)] The last day was the last day of the passionate performance, which was said to be a “complete combustion show” at the time. This is the “November 2nd” performance, which will also feature special guest Marty Friedman. The sound is very similar, but the richest. Actually, I feel that the opening part is less vivid than the two recordings above, but that’s really only the beginning. When the intro drum beat of “Matchbox” hits, it suddenly clears up and the clarity increases all at once. Perhaps this difference is due to the on-site PA. And what feels “rich” is the mid-bass rumble. Although it is difficult to rate the fineness of detail in all three performances, the richness of the mid-bass is the best on the last day. Because of this, the line of the base stands out clearly, and each hit of the snare and bass drum has a firmness to it. Of course, the general sound characteristics are the same in the three performances, but on top of that, the groove is just a pleasant recording. The show drawn with that sound is delicious because of the boldness of the last day, when you don’t have to think about tomorrow. Despite performing for four days in a row, Ringo sings with such ease that I am amazed, and yet each song seems to reflect the sense of fulfillment that came with completing the Japan tour. Todd and Lukather also expressed their gratitude for the excitement of the performance in Japan, creating a great atmosphere. “With a Little Help From My Friends” and “Give Peace A Chance” deliver the final blow to the mood on the final day. Special guest Marty Friedman joins in to bring the festive spirit to a climax. Although Marty is a guitarist in the heavy metal field, he has lived in Japan for a long time and is familiar with the “culture of reading the atmosphere.” His performance never comes forward, and he uses an acoustic guitar to honor the spirit of harmony. However, on set, they headbang and exude the joy of co-starring like innocent Americans, and even though the performance is undisturbed, the mood is lively. It is a live album where you can feel the subtleties firmly. A stunning audience recording that greatly improved the masterpiece video of “TOKYO 2016 2ND NIGHT: HAPPY HALLOWEEN”. This is a superb set that expands it to three performances. If you look at each performance individually, there are other excellent live albums, but the sense of unity of “same recording artist, same equipment, same venue” is unique to this work.
