Description

27-year-old Rickie Lee Jones suddenly became a household name with the successive success of “Romantic” and “Pirates.” A super-excellent live album that conveys such early scenes is now available. This work includes “August 18, 1982 Hoffman Estates Performance”. “Pirates” was released in July 1981, but the tour began in February 1982. This work is a transcendental audience recording recorded in one act of such “PIRATES TOUR”. [A masterpiece that stands out even in the hottest series] This work is actually the latest collection of “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION” that is currently captivating enthusiasts all over the world. Of course, the biggest point is the ridiculously great sound. Speaking of “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION,” the series has released a series of famous recordings from the early 80s in the past few weeks, and has suddenly become the eye of the typhoon in the collector world in 2020. The number is amazing, but the most overwhelming thing is the quality of each one. There are two main types of characteristics: one is a type where the hall sound creates depth and dynamism, and the other is a direct type where you can’t feel the sound at all and have no sense of distance. In the case of this work, it is the latter. This is a typical example of this, with an on-core sound that has no distance elements and powerfully jumps straight into your ears, and the details are as clear as the minute details as if it were being played right in front of your eyes. Up to this point, all the elements are essential for a clear masterpiece recording, but the amazing thing about “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION” is the density of the sound. Even if you listen to a famous recording that is often said to be as vivid as a soundboard, if you listen to it with headphones, you can feel the atmosphere at its core, especially in snare sounds. However, “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION” is full of density, right down to the snare. When I listened to it microscopically, doubting my ears as to whether it was really a recording through space, I noticed that minute amounts of ringing components also created the elongation of the singing voice and the luster of the tone. It’s truly an amazing series, but what’s surprising about Todome is that it has achieved the best sound for all types of artists/bands. Even though this work has a large ensemble of 11 members, the outlines of each note overlap vividly, but they never blend together. On top of that, Ricky’s beautiful voice cuts through everything and reaches your ears. It doesn’t matter if it’s a faint whisper or a powerful sing-along, it’s fresh and refreshing in every corner. [The scene of the show where not only famous songs but also incidents occurred] What is depicted with such beautiful sound is Ricky’s show where he is quickly climbing the ladder of success. In fact, the person recording the show left at the end of the show, and probably recorded four songs: “Chuck E.’s in Love,” “Danny’s All-Star Joint,” and “Iko Iko / Woody And Dutch On A Slow Train To Peking.” “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” was not recorded. For this reason, it is not a complete version, but you can still enjoy plenty of beautiful voices for about 95 minutes. Now, let’s organize your collection of famous songs. Original (5 songs)・Romantic: Young Blood/Weasel and the White Boys Cool (★)・Pirates: We Belong Together/Pirates (So Long Lonely Avenue) (★)・Other: I Won’t Dance Cover (7 songs)・Drinkin’ Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee (Stick McGee: ★) / Under The Boardwalk (THE DRIFTERS: ★) / Trouble Man (Marvin Gaye) / My Funny Valentine (Rogers & Hart) / Greenback Dollar Bill ( Louis Prima & Keeley Smith: ★) / Shopping for Clothes (THE COASTERS) / Walk Away Renee (THE LEFT BANKE) *Note: Songs marked with a ★ are not available on the excavation album “LIVE AT THE ROXY.” …and it looks like this. She sings the repertoire of “Roman” and “Pirates,” but she also sings a wide variety of covers. Speaking of records from 1982, there are excavation live albums “EUROPE 1982” and “LIVE AT THE ROXY”, but this work is close to the latter. Of course, it’s not exactly the same, and you can enjoy delicious masterpieces that you can’t listen to there. And Ricky’s singing voice that spells out such a set is wonderful. She was 27 years old at the time, and her voice was full of tension and strength, yet retained a coquettish tone. The vocalization, which is sometimes simple, sometimes mischievous, and sometimes beautifully, is reminiscent of the Italian Cantautrices. I regret that the recording is incomplete, but the final part, where the recording is interrupted, is also worth listening to. In fact, the venue was enveloped in a disturbing mood, and the show itself was about to be interrupted. The incident occurs in “Walk Away Renee”. Ricky sings with a beautiful voice, but at the end he mutters, “You are very rude.” Apparently, there were two audience members who couldn’t reach the front seats, and Ricky showed his anger on the spot and left the stage. After the awkward atmosphere continued for several minutes, the recording stopped, and when it resumed, the members connected the scene with a saxophone solo. Later, Ricky comes back on stage to introduce the band, but he’s still angry at Hangu. Perhaps this recording artist was also fed up with the troubles and left the venue. Although he recalls, “I went to another concert,” there are no other notable concert records from that day at Hoffman Estates. I can’t think of a place to go at such a half-hearted time. In any case, such a disturbing mood is a valuable and realistic document from today’s perspective. A great masterpiece where you can enjoy many famous songs and self-cum-on-site music with the best sound.
