Description
The most insane live performance by the strongest lineup has finally been revealed in its entirety…Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, and Al Di Meola made full use of their unique and transcendental techniques. This is the first album of RTF’s second season, which fully exudes a heavy jazz-rock sound, released under the band name Return to Forever without Chick’s name, and the final album of this lineup. Less than a month has passed since the recording of RTF’s masterpiece “Romantic Knight”, which has the highest sales record, was performed at Olympia in Paris, France, on March 7, 1976, of which only a portion of the album had previously been released. However, a 2-disc set has arrived that is almost completely recorded over 2 hours, more than double the previous release, with the highest quality sound that has been carefully mastered by the label! ! ! RTF at this time had a strong meaning as an all-star band, and each band was engaged in intense play as if they were competing with each other. However, the four members at this time had already been working together for many years, so Aun’s breathing was different from that of an impromptu all-star band, and as you can see when you listen to it, he was able to perform incredibly difficult and difficult ensembles. You can listen to the ultimate performance full of tension, where egoism and ensemble are just barely balanced. The first half begins with the album’s title song, “Romantic Knight,” which is famous for its technically difficult performance mainly on acoustics, followed by an extremely high-speed unison line by Chick, Al, and Stanley, which became RTF’s trademark during this period. was played, and the fierce exchange of solos from each person was already heating up. After that, based on this “Romantic Knight”, Chick’s piano solo starts with a jam in which other members join in the middle, followed by Al, Stanley, and Lenny’s jam in that order, and from the middle of the song, the full-length electric performance finally begins. First, they played the magnificent “Medieval Overture” with its odd time signature, which marks the beginning of the album “Romantic Knight”, followed by the famous song “Vulcan Worlds” from the first album by these four members, “Ginga no Kaei”. A passionate performance lasting 20 minutes. Chick’s rough synths, Al’s amazing electric guitar playing, Stanley’s fast guitar-like passages, Lenny’s high-speed drums in a 100-handed Kannon state, the thrilling interplay of solo exchanges in the second half, and more. The four performers on this day, including “Space Circus,” which became the name of the group along with Prism in Japan at the time, were astounding with their 20-minute performance, in which each member showed off their unbelievable techniques. It was a series of intense plays in which everyone, including Tick, was in a frantic mood from beginning to end, and all songs were played at higher speeds than in the studio, a ferocious and extreme performance that gave the illusion of being thrown into the middle of a hurricane.
