Description
This hour-long recording features a rare 1973 live performance by early RTF, especially from a North American tour featuring Steve Gadd, featuring a Philadelphia jazz club show in April. The audience master, recently released via taper, has been digitally remastered in 2025. While the original master had some issues with choppy inter-songs, muffled mid- and low-frequency sounds, and aging, this recording was made possible using state-of-the-art equipment. The remastering process corrects the balance and fades in and out between songs, resulting in a seamless listening experience. This recording features a rare lineup featuring Gadd, pre-Lenny White, Bill Connors on guitar, and Mingo Lewis on percussion. It’s also surprising to note that this lineup also played “Captain Senour Mouse” and “The Gamemaker” from the yet-to-be-released “Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy.” The musical performance also features Gadd’s intricate drumming, Connors’ rock-influenced guitar playing, and Stanley’s virtuoso bass, all of which explode throughout the album. Connors’ guitar leads the hyper-sounding sound of ’80s Crimson on “Captain Senour Mouse,” particularly on “Captain Senour Mouse.” This is a rare live performance featuring one of the most treasured lineups in RTF history. Recorded at The Bijou Cafe, Philadelphia, PA, USA, Spring 1973: Audience Recording / 2025 Remaster. 1. Captain Senour Mouse; 2. The Game Maker; 3. Bass Folk Song; 4. Spain; 5. Sometime Ago – fade out; Chick Corea – Fender Rhodes piano; Bill Connors – guitar; Stanley Clarke – electric bass; Steve Gadd – drums; Mingo Lewis – congas, percussion.
