Description

Rainer Brüninghaus is a pianist who mainly worked for ECM, and who showed his talent as an original and unique sound sculptor as a keyboardist in Eberhard Weber’s Colors Band and later the Jan Garbarek Group. This title is a compilation of live recordings from the time when he released “Freigeweht” on ECM in 1980, all compiled from soundboard recordings from the broadcast master, and includes a total of 1 hour and 50 minutes of performances at two jazz festivals in Germany in 1980 and at Berlin Jazz in 1982. The members of the group include ECM regulars such as Markus Stockhausen and John Christensen, as well as ECM heavyweights Kenny Wheeler on flugelhorn and John Christensen on drums, who also participated in the album, and each member adds their own essence to the lyrical theme, and Wheeler’s meditative tone in particular vividly depicts the theme of the song. And of course, the album itself is the main focus, with Brüninghaus’s use of synthesizers and electronics giving it a truly ECM feel, and the album is a timeless, official quality performance.
