Description
From the performance RAINBOW held in Japan in October 1982 after the release of “STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES”, the final performance at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan on October 22nd (second day) was provided by the recorder. This is a happy release decision that uses the original cassette master directly. The 1982 tour of Japan in conjunction with “STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES” held a total of 8 performances, starting with 3 consecutive performances at Osaka Festival Hall from October 12th to 14th, Kyoto Kaikan, Fukuoka Sun Palace, Nagoya City Public Hall, And as a result, we ended up touring the same venue as the ’81 tour, Nippon Budokan. However, at the live show, Joe Lynn Turner’s individuality came to the fore more and the content felt more American than the previous year. This live, which was the last day of the tour, has previously featured items containing excellent audience recordings such as “CATCH THE NIGHT” and “SAME OLD DREAM”. This recording is one with high clarity and outlook, which would be no surprise if it was normally released. It’s a shame that depending on the scene, you can see changes in the sound image that can be seen as microphone contact, but if you’re an avid enthusiast, you’ll be surprised to see such a recording released. This recording is from the “2nd floor southwest stand, row D, number 9.” Although it feels a little distant compared to the arena recording, the excellent clarity unique to master quality conveys Joe’s vocals and Richie’s vocals with a certain outlook and the vividness of a live tape. The excitement of the audience is also captured, but in songs such as “Tearin’ Out My Heart”, “Stone Cold” and “Difficult To Cure”, you can listen to the performance and it does not feel like it is too much of a hindrance. At the live show, “Spotlight Kid”, “Miss Mistreated”, and “I Surrender”, which can be said to be the staples of the Joe era, were released in succession from the opening. “Can’t Happen Here” uses “Blues” unique to this show as an intro, and Richie’s play that seems to release all the pent-up power at once is a perfect score. The venue turned into a festive atmosphere, and the excitement reached its peak during the popular “All Night Long.” In “Stone Cold”, which follows Joe’s unique MC “Do you feel good?”, Rosenthal inserts “Child In Time” in the intro, which is also an important listening point. Of course, Joe’s strong vocals that can be heard on “Stone Cold” are also a must-listen. The big highlight of the second half of the show is “Catch The Rainbow,” which is rare in the ’82 live show. From the end of “Long Live Lock’n’Roll”, the performance lasts for about 3 minutes, as if Richie were on top of Joe’s ad-libs, but the capricious Richie’s on-the-spot quick wits led to the tour’s most famous scene. I’m directing. After concluding “Long Live Lock’n’Roll”, it jumps out to “Man On The Silver Mountain”, and fans are sure to be excited by this series of Ronnie era representative songs. “Smoke On The Water” is an enthusiastic climax suitable for the climax of a live performance. At the time, a full 10 years had passed since DEEP PURPLE’s first visit to Japan, and the young audience’s desire to see PURPLE live was growing stronger. Here, like “Lazy” at the beginning of “All Night Long” and the aforementioned “Child In Time”, it is an excitement that makes you feel the thoughts of such fans. The 107-minute recording is filled with surprises and excitement all the way to the end, and is sure to satisfy fans. This high-quality recording of one of the best live performances from the 1982 tour is a must-see for RAINBOW fans. We hope you enjoy this work on this limited opportunity!
