While most of the album is instrumental, Joe also participates, and in “Catch the Rainbow” you can hear scat with female chorus, and in “Since You Been Gone” he sings beautifully (what a beautiful and lustrous voice!). This is a masterpiece of a sound check album that has been revived with a more beautiful and realistic sound. It was introduced by the Shades label because it appeals to fans who want to peek behind the scenes, rather than a musical work, but the sound and the value are press-class cultural heritage. Richie, who is surprisingly (?) serious about the live performance, is interesting, and the dynamics of the members are also interesting to see through.
