Description

RAINBOW returned to their home country of England in 1981 with a new lineup that welcomed Joe Lynn Turner. This precious sound check album is now available. This work is recorded at the Rainbow Theater on July 8, 1981. However, it is not the main live performance, but an audience recording recorded at the sound check held in the venue before the show started. As a matter of convention, I have written “audience recording”, but of course this is a type of recording. (Probably) it was not the audience, but the staff who recorded it with a microphone. Also, this day is well known for the fact that Kinney’s famous recording “RAINBOW THEATRE 1981” was left behind. It’s a good opportunity to look back on the schedule at that time and check the show’s position. {February 3rd “No Treatment” released} February 20th-May 13th: North America (47 performances) June 3rd-July 5th: Europe (23 performances) July 8th-27th: UK (16 performances) ←★Here★ August 12th-28th: Japan (8 performances) {September: Don Airey leaves → October: Dave Rosenthal joins} This is RAINBOW in 1981. They toured the world with a simple structure: North America → Europe (continental Europe) → UK → Japan. There were two consecutive performances at the Rainbow Theater, but this work and the masterpiece “RAINBOW THEATRE 1981” are on the first day. This was the first day of the “UK” tour itself, and it was also the first return concert since the “First MONSTERS OF ROCK”. This work allows you to witness the sound check just before such a memorable show. In fact, this recording has been known for a long time, but this work is neither a copy of the previous release nor a remastered reissue. It is an upgrade master brought from a unique route. Moreover, that unique route is the same route as Michael Schenker’s shocking album “STUDIO SESSIONS 1979 WITH BILLY SHEEHAN”. It is a young generation that is much less muddy and cloudy than the previous releases, and is much brighter and easier to listen to. Such a fresh sound depicts the precious backstage of RAINBOW. Instead of playing the song in its finished form, it is a check of the sound output. Play your favorite phrases many times, or check the balance by adjusting the texture of the song with several people. Don is trying out various famous songs to play in solo time. Of course, it is a live performance by the person himself, and the conversations between the members and staff in between are also vivid. While most of the album is instrumental, Joe also participates, and in “Catch the Rainbow” you can hear scat with female chorus, and in “Since You Been Gone” he sings beautifully (what a beautiful and lustrous voice!). This is a masterpiece of a sound check album that has been revived with a more beautiful and realistic sound. It was introduced by the Shades label because it appeals to fans who want to peek behind the scenes, rather than a musical work, but the sound and the value are press-class cultural heritage. Richie, who is surprisingly (?) serious about the live performance, is interesting, and the dynamics of the members are also interesting to see through. This work itself is a valuable record, and it is also a great sub-text for the masterpiece “RAINBOW THEATRE 1981”. This is a sound check album of the “Rainbow Theater performance on July 8, 1981”. Although it is a microphone recording, it is a newly excavated master that has been upgraded from the conventional version, and the young generation sound is much brighter and easier to listen to. You can witness the backstage just before the show, with members playing their favorite phrases over and over again, and several people tuning up the songs to check the balance. This is also a great album as a subtext for the show’s masterpiece “RAINBOW THEATRE 1981”. Rainbow Theatre, London, UK 8th July 1981 TRULY AMAZING SOUND(UPGRADE) (54:46) 1. Segment 1 Guitar 2.
