Description

This work contains the “Helsinki performance on November 3, 1982”. It is a valuable audience shot from the early 1980s when video cameras were just starting to become popular. The main press CD was a rare set unique to the very early days of the tour, but this work is the end of the tour. The tour overview is posted in the commentary of the main work, but the Helsinki performance of this work is the fourth performance of the “European” leg at the end. It is a concert immediately after the 1982 performance in Japan. Such a work is a wonderful vintage shot. There is also an official video “LIVE BETWEEN THE EYES” from this tour, but because this work is an audience shot, you can enjoy the live from the “audience’s perspective”, and you can also watch “I Surrender” and “Since You Been Gone” slapped by Bob Rondinelli in a consistent flow. However, what is more important and heart-shaking than that is the “existence” of this video itself. As mentioned above, in 1982, video cameras were not yet widely used, so the cameraman must have brought a rather large camera in secret. Moreover, even though the tape itself was still expensive and it was not possible to shoot live performances frequently, the film was shot with outstanding stability, and Ritchie Blackmore, who is said to have been the “most action-packed in history,” was captured with perfect concentration. What’s more, this work was left untouched in an era when even TV stations erased the master by dubbing. Even that fact is spectacular. It’s easy to forget in this day and age when even children upload their own recordings to SNS, but even in Japan, where people consider themselves “the world’s biggest RAINBOW lovers” and were also interested in the latest technology, there is no footage from 1982. I want you to remember this fact. The fact that this was filmed in Scandinavia is also a key point. At the time, the image of “American pop” was strong, and in fact “STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES” marked the 30th place in the US for the first time since the first album. However, it also ranked 7th in Sweden, and since Joe Lynn Turner took over, support has been growing more than in the Ronnie James Dio era. Of course, as Richie said, “I love ABBA,” there was a regional preference for pop music, but the center of this work is Richie, not Joe. The photographer of this work is not here to see the “popular pop bands these days,” but he definitely loves Richie from the bottom of his heart. The screen and the shots are filled with the photographer’s thoughts from every corner of the angle. Of course, the quality is not as good as the beautiful official footage, but it is not at the level of “looking for Richie beyond the noise” (never!), and the image quality can be enjoyed even by the photographer himself, and the sound can be fully enjoyed from Richie’s picking to Joe’s breathing in response to it. This is a historical video that anyone who loves RAINBOW deeply should see. I won’t deny that it is somewhat maniac, but that is why I sympathize with the photographer’s thoughts who can’t take his eyes off Richie.
