Description
Once upon a time…well, even now, the era of Graham Bonnet, who is hailed as the “strongest RAINBOW.” A new upgrade master of the traditional recording has been discovered. This work includes “Aalborg performance on August 10, 1980”. This is a superb audience recording that recorded the last day of the Scandinavian tour, which was also a warm-up for that “1st MONSTERS OF ROCK (hereinafter referred to as MOR)”. Yes, this show is a night known for the all-time masterpieces such as “PERFECT ON LINE” and “ASTROLOGIST MORE”. This work is the original master of such a legendary recording, and is a new masterpiece that updates the longest and highest quality ever! [Countdown to “one more show” until the finale] I’ve started talking about “warm-up” and “that show,” but speaking of 1980, that was 40 years ago. First, let’s look back at an overview of Graham’s activities to refresh his memory. 1979《“DOWN TO EARTH” released on July 28》・September 18-October 12: North America #1 (18 performances)・November 6-December 13: North America #2 (24 performances) 1980, January 17th – March 8th: Europe (35 performances), May 8th – 15th: Japan (6 performances), August 8th – 16th: Northern Europe + MOR (4 performances) ←★Here ★ This is RAINBOW from the Graham era. During this tour, Cozy Powell announced his withdrawal from the band in the music magazine “New Musical Express”. The headline appearance at MOR on August 16th has been decided as Koji’s last stage at RAINBOW. The “Nordic” leg was a mini tour that served as a warm-up before the final big stage. All performances of this mini tour can be enjoyed as a live album. Let’s zoom in on “Nordic + MOR” and review it along with some representative sound sources. Nordic Tour・August 8: Aarhus performance (Denmark) “ASTROLOGIST (DISC 1-2)” “ANOTHER ONLINE”・August 9: Malmö performance (Sweden) “ASTROLOGIST (DISC 3)” “ON LINE”・8 August 10: Aalborg performance ASTROLOGIST MORE” “PERFECT ON LINE” ←★This work is here★ UK (MONSTERS OF ROCK)・August 15: MOR (rehearsal) “MONSTERS OF ROCK REHEARSALS” “MONSTER CASTLE”・August 16th: MOR (actual) “MONSTERS OF ROCK 1980 DEFINITIVE EDITION” “THE END OF A RAINBOW” + official edition “MONSTERS OF ROCK: LIVE AT DONINGTON 1980” *Only representative albums on each day. …and it looks like this. As you can see, this Aalborg performance is the last day of the “Nordic Tour” and is the last count of “one more performance” until MOR. All three performances of this short-term Scandinavian tour were recorded with audience recordings, and all are standard. The Aarhus performance on the 8th is highly praised for its sound board quality, and the 9th also features excellent performance and recording conditions, as well as an accident that seems to have been canceled due to rain. And the main topic is the 10th. It is said that there were particularly excellent performances in the three Nordic performances on this day, but the recording condition was blurry and “one piece dropped”, as usual. [Finally found the full length version! [A traditional master who shows off his true form] However, such reputation is only for the past. The new master discovered this time has the same recording system as the previously released “PERFECT ON LINE” and “ASTROLOGIST MORE”, but this is exactly the “Original”. It was a master that breathed in the atmosphere of the venue, and contained a surprising sound that completely turned away from conventional images. First of all, the biggest difference is that you can listen to “The Land Of Hope And Glory” and “Countdown Intro” (more than 2 minutes in total) before the performance, which were not recorded in the previous release, and “Over The Rainbow” after the performance. Even now, new works with incomplete masters are being released, but you can tell them apart with this point. Of course, this length is just “evidence of the origin”. The important thing is the sound that permeates the whole thing. Its clarity and reality are overwhelming. Even though it was recorded in 1980, it has a good visibility just like a DAT recording, and the moment you play it, you can see the scene of the venue in front of you. The previous impression of the sound being “blurry” was shattered in an instant. The recording itself is not different, so the sound of the hall is picked up, but the sound that peels off the veil of noise, both Richie’s guitar and Graham’s singing voice, come through as if “I am the main character!” In fact, when it plays with this spacious and big sound, it doubles the charm of “Eyes Of The World”. What is most surprising is Koji’s drumming. The hard sound of the snare, the powerful sound of the bass drum, all with a realistic cozy feel. “Love’s No Friend”, which cuts into the main role battle between Richie and Graham, is a masterpiece that you should definitely check out. And the highlight of the live was “Stargzaer”, which was included in the set for MOR! At the Aarhus performance on the 8th, although the sound quality was high, the hardness and roughness of the first performance was seen, but here the performance was familiar, and Richie’s solo was outstanding. Graham is even more eye-opening. He’s the type of person who tends to come to the surface when the live performance continues, but this time he showed no signs of fatigue and was making the songs his own. Rather, he controls his voice accurately and sings while suppressing what needs to be suppressed. This rising nuance is also reflected in the sharpness of “Catch The Rainbow.” The contrast between the “Brandenburg Concerto” that Richie plays at the beginning of the song, the beautiful tone in the first half, and the passion-filled performance in the second half… On this day, it is said that “the third day in Scandinavia is the best performance”, but this is even more clearly depicted with the upgraded sound. And a long “Lost In Hollywood” medley that includes solos from each person. This dramatic performance feels even more special when you think of Donington on August 16th. The ending song “Over The Rainbow”, which appears for the first time, puts a damper on such a famous performance. It’s about 30 seconds, but the aftertaste is completely different with and without it. The Graham era is an era that stands out in live composition, and this epilogue completes RAINBOW’s “style beauty”. The “Nordic Tour” quickly increased its potential in preparation for the big stage MONSTERS OF ROCK. This is a press 2CD that permanently preserves the last day with the highest update quality. This work itself is a masterpiece of a live album, but with the appearance of this work, it is now possible to complete the highest peak collection of the three Northern European performances with a press CD. In terms of individuality, the August 8th Aarhus recording is a “quasi-soundboard” that focuses on the performance, and the August 9th Melmo recording that recorded the accident is a “document.” And will Aalborg (this work) on August 10th be a “on-site experience” including the live atmosphere? It’s a collection of masterpieces from all three. The true appearance of the legendary recording, depicted over the longest 97-minute recording ever. This masterpiece was made possible because of the countdown to “one more performance until the end of the strongest RAINBOW.” Live at Aalborghallen, Aalborg, Denmark 10th August 1980 TRULY PERFECT SOUND *UPGRADE & LONGER!!!
