Description
A phantom treasure recording that only core collectors knew about until now. It’s finally here. It is in Japan that this treasure was recorded. The third Japan tour, which reached the height of its popularity, was performed at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Gymnasium on May 2, 1979. This is a masterpiece audience recording. After all, “JAZZ JAPAN TOUR 1979” is the peak of Japan’s popularity. Our store also has an archive of many masterpieces. The recently released masterpiece “DEFINITIVE OSAKA 1979″ is still fresh in my memory. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and organize the peak collection. ・April 13th: Nippon Budokan “BUDOKAN 1979 1ST NIGHT” ・April 14th: Nippon Budokan “BUDOKAN 1979 2ND NIGHT” ・April 19th + 20th: Festival Hall “DEFINITIVE OSAKA 1979” ・April 21st: Practical Ethics Memorial Hall ・April 23rd: Nippon Budokan “PRIDE AND JOY” ・April 24th: Nippon Budokan ・April 25th: Nippon Budokan “BUDOKAN 1979” ・April 27th: Kobe Central Gymnasium ・April 28th Sun: Nagoya International Exhibition Center “THE PLEASURE CHEST” April 30th + May 1st: Fukuoka Kyuden Gymnasium “MEMORIAL GYM” May 2nd: Yamaguchi Prefectural Gymnasium ←★This work★ May 5th + 6th : Makomanai Ice Arena *Note: Only representative works are shown on each day. A total of 15 performances. The overwhelming number of performances, including 5 performances at Nippon Budokan, is by far the most in QUEEN’s visit to Japan. It was definitely the pinnacle tour in Japan. Until now, recordings from Tokyo, Nagoya, and Fukuoka have been popular, but this work is their only record of their Yamaguchi performance. [A phantom secret recording that has finally seen the light of day] This work is truly a treasure. In fact, the existence of this recording was known, but only core collectors were able to actually hear it. It is a recording that has been kept secret and rarely circulated among traders. This work is the finest quality that even such secret recordings are of master quality. In recent years, an incomplete version of another sound source has been circulating on the Internet, but it is completely different in length and quality. In fact, the sound of this work is exquisite. Anyway, the overwhelming thing is the clarity. The scene where the pause is repeated at the beginning is shocking (don’t worry, it’s not a problem with the playback machine), but as soon as the performance starts with “We Will Rock You”, a wonderful sound spreads out. Although it is not a close sound that can be mistaken for a sound board, the atmosphere is very transparent, and the solid singing voice and performance reach the core directly. I don’t know much about the acoustics of the Yamaguchi Prefectural Gymnasium, but there are few hall echoes, just like in the open air, and every detail comes straight to your fingertips. Moreover, the audience noise is unusually low. Of course, there is a lot of excitement at the beginning of the show and between songs, so it’s not like it’s running out. The screams of joy that greeted the MC, who only once in history said, “We are glad to be in Yamaguchi,” were amazing. However, once the performance started, there was mostly just a few (and very consistent) clapping of hands, and the chants that erupted here and there were extremely distant. This tour is at the height of its popularity, so there is no shortage of recordings with strong yellow voices, but this work is different. It is a masterpiece recording that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the robust yet beautiful performance and singing voice. [The truth about the wonderful and interesting Yamaguchi performance] The show drawn with such exquisite sound is also wonderful and interesting. Although he must be tired since it was his 13th performance in Japan, Freddie’s voice came out well, and there was a lot of energy and excitement (although the final song “Bohemian Rhapsody” seems to be really tough). “Don’t Stop Me Now”, which once dropped out of the set, has been revived, and even in the 1979 performance in Japan, you can hear one of the most beautiful singing voices. And this work is also fun. Brian’s MC saying “Can you hear me well? Can you see me well! That was good…” after “Don’t Stop Me Now” is also interesting, but it is “Teo Torriatte” that makes Freddie smile. I forget the lyrics and end up humming “la la la”. Moreover, what is funny is that the Japanese parts are sung perfectly. As it is, number 2 is also quite suspicious, and it comes back when it comes to Japanese. You can listen to a performance that is unlike anything you would expect from a foreigner, with Hanamogera’s English and beautiful Japanese. Even more special is “’39.” Apparently there was a group of foreigners at the scene, and some noise was being made. Freddie then asked, “Are you from Japan?” and the audience laughed, and then he continued, “Are you the Navy?” and the group of foreigners replied, “No!” It’s not particularly murderous, the atmosphere is very humorous. What’s even funnier is when Freddie asks, “Do you guys like the YMCA?” (Actually, “Young Man” was a big hit in Japan in 1979. It seems that the members of QUEEN were also taught by the Japanese staff, and it was stupid to imitate them.) A true treasure. It’s not perfect, as there are pauses not only in the opening scene but also in “Tie Your Mother Down” and “Sheer Attack Heart.” However, the quality is so good that it doesn’t matter, and the show is too enjoyable. It’s no wonder that this fun and enjoyment makes you want to have it all to yourself. It is a treasure that has been kept secret precisely because it is wonderful. A two-disc set that preserves such Yamaguchi performances forever. A must-listen album that is definitely the number one title of 2019 in February. ★The high-quality version of the 1979 Yamaguchi performance that was kept secret by some enthusiasts has finally made its first boot appearance after 40 years!
