Description

A new excavation series of 70’s QUEEN that is shocking. The “A DAY AT THE RACES TOUR” edition is now available. This work includes “Liverpool performance on June 2, 1977”. This is the first appearance audience recording. “SHEER HEART ATTACK TOUR” ultra-rare album “LIVERPOOL 1974” will be permanently preserved, but this work is also a new master that was discovered at the same time. The 1974 edition was an upgrade of the old recording, but this is a live album that will appear for the first time. Before we get into the shocking content, let’s talk about the show’s position. Speaking of 1977, it is also a time when two tours intersect, so let’s look back at the schedule here. 1977 “A DAY AT THE RACES TOUR” ・January 13th – March 18th: North America #1 (40 performances) ・May 8th – June 7th: Europe #1 (19 performances) ←★Here★ [“Dedicated to the World” released on October 28th] “NEWS OF THE WORLD TOUR”・November 11th – December 22nd: North America #2 (26 performances) 1978・April 12th – May 13th: Europe #2 (20 performances) This is the overall picture of “A DAY AT THE RACES TOUR” and “NEWS OF THE WORLD TOUR”. QUEEN released “Brilliant Lace” at the end of 1976 and began touring at the beginning of the following year, 1977. After touring North America and Europe until early summer, he began work on his next work, “Dedicated to the World.” The Liverpool performance of this work was the 16th concert of “Europe #1” in its final stage. Also, speaking of “Liverpool in 1977”, the recording of the “June 3rd” performance has become known, but this work is not a credit mistake but a different performance. It was the first day of two consecutive days. This work recorded at such a show is a vintage audience with great master freshness. To put it bluntly, it is a somewhat distant recording, but the performance sound that penetrates the middle is delicate. Also, I don’t know if it’s the same taper as “LIVERPOOL 1974”, which was also pressed, but the sound tendency is similar and perfect for mastering. This work also uses its own meticulous mastering, and the effect is tremendous and the clarity of the atmosphere has increased dramatically. It is crystal clear and does not cloud the details. Another thing that cannot be overlooked is the enthusiasm of the people on set. This is already a huge excitement. Freddy, who is the most important part, is also in high spirits, but as if being stirred up, the excitement in the audience goes through the roof, and there is an uproar about singing and shouting. Of course, when the song is sung softly, I listen silently, and the performance sound and Freddie’s singing voice are never drowned out. Nevertheless, it is also a scorching live album with a scorching heat blowing out of the speakers. What is depicted with such real sound is a delicious full show with rare songs and a double that is in great condition. Speaking of the symbol of this tour, the pro shot of Earl’s Court is more famous than anything else, so let’s organize the sets while comparing them.・Terror Princess (2 songs): Keep Yourself Alive/Liar ・Queen II (2 songs): Ogre Battle/White Queen (As It Began) ・Sheer Heart Attack (6 songs): Killer Queen/Bring Back That Leroy Brown/Brighton Rock/Stone Cold Crazy/In The Lap Of The Gods…Revisited/Now I’m Here・A Night at the Opera (6 songs): You’re My Best Friend/Death On Two Legs/Sweet Lady ( ★)/’39/The Prophet’s Song/Bohemian Rhapsody・Splendid Lace (6 songs):Tie Your Mother Down/Somebody To Love/Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy/The Millionaire Waltz/You Take My Breath Away/White Man・Others: I’m A Man (★) / Jailhouse Rock Medley *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard even in the standard pro shot on the first day of Earl’s Court. …and it looks like this. “Sweet Lady” is a rare song until this tour, but it was replaced with “Doing All Right” on the first day of Earl’s Court. Although this work is not the last performance as it was played on the second day of Earl’s Court, it is the last remaining sound source. And the other “I’m A Man” is even more valuable. This is a cover of Bo Diddley, but even in 1977 it was an extremely rare song that was only played about 10 times on “Europe #1”. And the performance that weaves such a set is also at its best! As a matter of fact, the 2 performances in Glasgow just before this work and the 2 performances in Liverpool the day after this work are famous for their great performances, but this work in between is also no less. Freddie’s voice stretches out comfortably, and his improvisations are both flexible and flexible. The difference in pitch and extension was just as I expected, and I felt as if I couldn’t help but be happy to hear the voices coming out as many times as I wanted. Moreover, the momentum transfers to the light piano and other members’ performances. What flowed out from the first appearance of the master, who surprised the world, was a venue of great excitement both on and off the stage. The rare songs are delicious, but the show itself is even more blissful. This is a moving live album that allows you to witness such scenes with real sound. Even with this much progress in the archive, there were still some great shows that were unknown. If you think about it, it may seem obvious, but when you experience it like this, you really realize how great QUEEN is.
