Description

The most famous performance of the popular “JAZZ JAPAN TOUR” was the “April 25, 1979: Nippon Budokan.” A treasured live album that conveys the entire story has been decided to be released. This show is famous above all for the TV broadcast pro shots that were left behind, but it was about 32 minutes. It was far from the full show. This work is an audience recording that completely captured such a legendary scene. Our shop has archived the 1979 tour under various titles, so let’s first organize the collection by date.・April 13th “BUDOKAN 1979 1ST NIGHT” ・April 14th “BUDOKAN 1979 2ND NIGHT” ・April 19th + 20th “DEFINITIVE OSAKA 1979” ・April 21st “KANAZAWA 1979” ・April 23rd “PRIDE AND JOY (Nippon Budokan)” ・April 24th: Nippon Budokan ・April 25th: Nippon Budokan ←★This performance★ ・April 27th “KOBE 1979” ・April 28th “NAGOYA 1979” ・April 30th + May 1st “MEMORIAL GYM (Fukuoka)” ・May 2nd “YAMAGUCHI 1979” ・May 5th + 6th: Makomanai Ice Arena *Note: Only representative works are shown on each day. A total of 15 performances. This was their largest tour in Japan history, and the Nippon Budokan performance was right in the middle of it all, with the eighth performance. This vacuum-packed recording is an exquisite original recording. It was recorded by the same recording artist as the 1985 treasure “AT LAST BUDOKAN,” and is a masterpiece among masterpieces, created from the original cassette. Speaking of the pinnacle recording of this day, it would be the popular “DREAMER’S BALL” at our shop, but this master goes even further. While the realistic sound absorbs the fervor of the peak, the performance sounds and singing cut through the heat with a neat and clear sound. While not quite up close, it jumps straight into your hands without being disturbed by the high-pitched squeals, and even the subtleties are clearly discernible. In fact, this recording has even been combined with a soundboard and released on CD. In other words, it is of a quality that could be the best partner for traditional soundboards. Furthermore, its stability and nearly uninterrupted length are excellent. In fact, our previously released “DREAMER’S BALL” sounded the best ever, but the recorder repeatedly paused between songs, concerned about the remaining tape. As a result, the beginnings of songs like “You’re My Best Friend,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Sheer Heart Attack,” and “We Will Rock You” were missing, and even with that much care, they couldn’t hold on to the final “God Save the Queen.” However, this work maintains a fantastic sound, almost uninterrupted. Despite the recording omissions after the end of “Let Me Entertain You” and “Somebody To Love,” the only missing performance was the beginning of “Bohemian Rhapsody” due to the tape change. You can immerse yourself in the performance and singing without any worries. Enjoying a full show with such a sound is truly moving. It’s well-known that Freddie was in poor health that day, and it’s understandable that he took the trouble to film a pro shot and then sent it to the broadcast (even so, QUEEN’s pro shots in Japan are truly unfortunate). However, the heat is exuded from desperately trying to squeeze out the voices that don’t come out. The performance attempting to cover the voice is preserved in the pro shots, but the temperature of the Nippon Budokan, which heats up as you witness it, is also realistically felt. And you can experience the show (almost) in full with seamless sound. In terms of quality, it doesn’t match the soundboard, but the real pleasure of enjoying it without any switching is in this work. You can fully experience the legendary concert that was not expected in a famous pro shot. This is all there is. A full live album of the “JAZZ Tour” visit to Japan has been released. This is a masterpiece that was digitized directly from the original cassette, with an audience recording that completely captured the famous concert in a TV broadcast pro shot.
