Description
This is the first ever single-camera, pro-shot footage from the band’s 1979 “JAZZ Tour” performance in Japan. This incredible footage was filmed by the band’s roadie backstage at the Nippon Budokan on April 24th for recording purposes. While a 20-minute portion of the footage has previously been available, this latest release spans nearly an hour. While the handheld single-camera footage isn’t broadcast-quality, the close-up footage is astounding. While there are still some shortcomings, such as missing tracks, tape degradation during the final tracks “We Are the Champions” and “God Save the Queen,” and cuts to tracks like “Death on Two Legs” and “Teo Torriatte,” the image quality itself is not all that bad. And what’s even more surprising is the audio, which isn’t recorded by the camera’s microphones but instead synchronized with a stereo soundboard source recorded directly from the mix desk, resulting in an official bootleg-quality sound. It is well known that this was the fifth performance at the Nippon Budokan during their visit to Japan, and that it was also broadcast on TV the following day, the 25th. Of course, this is not the same day as the broadcast, so this title is a valuable video record that will be released to the world for the first time, making it a must-see collector’s edition for fans of the past.
