Description

QUEEN’s first visit to Japan is even lukewarm to the word “legendary.” They left a huge impact on Japan and themselves, and became a kind of phenomenon that is indispensable in telling the story of Japan. A live album depicting the scene with wonderful sound is now available. This work includes the “April 29, 1975: Shizuoka Yamaha Tsumagoi Hall” performance. This is a masterpiece audience recording recorded in Kakegawa City. This show is also known for its great performances. QUEEN’s performances in Japan vary greatly, but on their first visit to Japan, the members were probably excited by the unimaginable reception, and every performance was full of high-tension masterpieces. I can’t decide on the best show, but it is a show that has been said to be the most likely candidate. First, let’s check the position of the Kakegawa performance on the schedule at that time.・April 19th: Nippon Budokan ・April 22nd “NAGOYA 1975” ・April 23rd “DEFINITIVE KOBE 1975” ・April 25th: Fukuoka City Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium ・April 28th “FATAL” ATTRACTION (Okayama)” April 29th: Shizuoka Yamaha Tsumagoi Hall ← [This work] April 30th: Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium May 1st “AN EXCEPTIONAL LEGACY (Nippon Budokan)” *Only representative works are shown for each performance. That’s all 8 performances. This is a full-fledged tour that will include Nippon Budokan on the first and last day, and will also visit various locations outside of Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, even though this is their first visit to Japan. The Kakegawa performance of this work was the 6th performance on the way back to Kanto. This work, which records such a show, has excellent quality. What is amazing is the crystal clear atmosphere. Although it is not a close contact type that can be mistaken for a sound board, the space from the stage to the microphone is clear, and the performance and singing voice penetrate straight through like a laser. Furthermore, the freshness is overwhelming, there are almost no dubbing marks, there is no distortion in the extending core, and the hall sound that slightly rises from it is extremely neat and beautiful. For example, in “In The Lap Of The Gods”, Freddie’s gentle singing voice and Roger’s shout intersect, but they are also beautifully separated. Even when the two singing voices overlap, they don’t mix, and both have plenty of length. Moreover, this work has also been polished with the latest remastering. The slightly faster pitch is also adjusted accurately, but the sound is even louder than that. As for the characteristics of the recording itself, the bass was a bit harsh, but we made fine adjustments not only to the bass but also to each range. As a result, not only has the balance become more even, but the shedding has also been greatly improved. Of course, since the original is a rare masterpiece recording, we maximized its original potential without changing it to something else. The sound of such a performance alone is wonderful, but what is even more surprising is the lack of audience noise. Naturally, there were yellow voices flying around the scene, but they didn’t come between the stage and the microphone. It has a balance of “Something is making noise in the distance”, and while Freddie’s singing voice jumps in from the front, the singing voice has a three-dimensional effect that flies far to the side. Although the recording position is not transmitted, you can feel the enthusiasm of the first visit to Japan and listen carefully to the performance. After all, it is QUEEN’s first visit to Japan, which is more than a legend, so I would be grateful if I could listen to even one performance, but it is not at all like that. No matter what year or tour it is, it is a masterpiece that will definitely be called a masterpiece. However, it is unmistakable that 1975 is depicted with such a sound. In fact, in the beginning, there was a sense of calm for someone who was visiting Japan for the first time, and it felt like they were playing carefully. However, the mood changes completely from “Keep Yourself Alive”, which introduces the members. The performance ran through with such excitement that it was as if the show was starting again, and then went on to sing “Seven Seas Of Rhye” and “Stone Cold Crazy” all at once! And “Liar”. It’s a song that gets excited at any show when it comes to Japan for the first time, but on this day it was really amazing. Both Freddie and Roger were in top form and their vocalizations were crisp and clear, and the shouts of “Liar!” with the audience were a great commotion. Actually, there is a tape change before these three songs, and the sound becomes a little wild, but even that seems to add fuel to the fiery performance. At the beginning, I wrote “the most likely candidate for the best show”, but that refers to the intense push in the second half. It’s a passionate performance that continues straight to the finale. QUEEN’s performance in Japan is full of ups and downs, but their first visit to Japan was a high wave. For such young people, Japan’s hospitality was a shock, and it gave them unstoppable energy. This is a rare masterpiece live album that depicts one of the greatest performances with wonderful clear sound even though it is the first time to visit Japan that is more than a legend.
