Description
Queen takes a bold challenge to the conventional concept of rock. Their third album was completed with a generous amount of innovative ideas! New CD & DVD Special Collector’s Edition Queen “Sheer Heart Attack” CD & DVD Special Collector’s Edition The latest CD & DVD Special Collector’s Edition includes all the songs on the album and rare audio sources as well as related video footage, all edited in 2024. Newly edited remixes, alternate versions, extended mixes, demos and outtakes are all recorded on CD with the latest remastered upgraded audio sources. The DVD includes the legendary first visit to Japan in 1975 (the longest version), as well as unreleased footage from promotional videos to live performances, and various edited versions. Immediately after the release of their second album, Queen II, in April 1974, they toured North America as the opening act for Mott the Hoople, but Brian May was hospitalized and they left the tour midway. Their third album, Sheer Heart Attack, was released in the UK on November 8, 1974. It was released in Japan in December, meaning that they released three albums in a row that year. The single “Killer Queen,” released prior to the album, was a smash hit, reaching No. 2 in the UK charts and No. 12 in the US. The album was produced by Roy Thomas Baker, as with the previous album, but it has taken on a wider range of musicality from the progressive rock orientation of the previous album, and is a versatile album that makes use of the band’s characteristics of dense harmonies, gorgeous melodies, and dramatic and ambitious arrangements. It entered the top 20 in the UK album charts in its first week and rose to No. 2 in December. It also reached No. 12 in the US charts. Immediately after the album was released, the band began a UK tour, and during the week of the two performances at the Rainbow Theatre in London, which was well known for the video recordings that were left as the tour progressed, the single “Killer Queen” reached No. 2 on the UK charts. Since their debut, the band has received harsh criticism in the UK, but their popularity in the UK has increased, and they embarked on their first full-scale world tour to the US and Japan. In Japan, their idol-like popularity began to boil over around this time, and in 1975, they performed their legendary, enthusiastic first performance in Japan. This is an important album from the early days of Queen, which became a stepping stone to global success as a band. CD = New Remix and Remaster The latest remastered 2024 version includes all the original album songs + additional songs in a newly edited rare track. All the songs on the album are included in different versions, including “Brighton Rock”, “Teniment Funster”, and “Now I’m Here”, which have been newly mixed from the multi-tracks, as well as “Flick of the Wrist” in a live arrangement, “The Work of the Gods” with different vocals, and other extended mixes that are longer than the original versions. Extra tracks also include valuable studio outtakes of “Killer Queen,” “Stone Cold Crazy,” and “The Work of the Gods,” as well as the 1975 rehearsal of “Now I’m Here,” and backing tracks and remixes from multitrack recordings. DVD = Video Collection / 1975 First Visit to Japan Film Footage (Longest Version) / Additional recording “Video Collection” includes promo videos from the album and 8 carefully selected collector edited videos. “1975 First Visit to Japan Film Footage (Longest Version)” contains a documentary and live footage of the legendary first visit to Japan in 1975, some of which was made into video from archive footage broadcast on TV at the time, but this longest version includes the longest version, including newly excavated footage of the Budokan live scene that was once screened at a convention, which is fragmented but longer. Compared to the original film footage, the audio has also been replaced with a stereo remaster, making it the best quality sound and image quality ever and the longest recording time. In addition, the additional recording “TV & Video Variety” includes the BBC versions of “Killer Queen” and “Now I’m Here” as well as various video versions produced later. The bonus footage includes a rare record of their first visit to Japan in 1975 on the TV program “Star One Thousand and One Nights.” Unfortunately, it is a still image with only audio, but the fresh interviews from that time and the treasured audio recordings including “Sun and Daughter” from the Budokan concert are not to be missed. This is a video collection that fans will be interested in, with a total of over 90 minutes on DVD. CD SHEER HEART ATTACK : NEW REMIX AND REMASTERS 01. BRIGHTON ROCK 02. KILLER QUEEN 03.
