Description

Queen in 1975 released the historic masterpiece “A Night at the Opera” that rewrote rock history. Another witness to the sound of the UK, the epicenter of the revolution, is born. This work is recorded from the “Glasgow performance on December 16, 1975”. It is a vintage audience recording. Speaking of 1975, it was the time when the “SHEER HEART ATTACK Tour” and “A NIGHT AT THE OPERA Tour” intersected, but this work is the latter. First of all, let’s look back at the whole view of the world tour and check the position of the show. 1975 August-November: Production of “A Night at the Opera” November 14-December 24: UK (25 performances) ←★Here★ 1976 January 27-March 13: North America (34 performances) March 22-April 4: Japan (9 performances) April 11-22: Australia (8 performances) July: Production of “A Night at the Opera” begins This is the whole picture of “A Night at the Opera Tour”. The first visit to Japan was the “SHEER HEART ATTACK Tour”, and then “A Night at the Opera” was produced. The tour started from the “UK” leg as the single “Bohemian Rhapsody” climbed the charts in each country. In our shop, the official work “A Night at the Odeon” was left from this “UK” leg, and we have archived it with various live albums in our shop. Here, let’s zoom in on the schedule and organize the collection. Details of the “UK” leg: November 14th + 15th “A NIGHT AT THE EMPIRE” November 16th-19th (4 performances) (November 21st “A Night at the Opera” released) November 21st-24th (3 performances) November 26th “RHAPSODY IN WHITE” November 29th-December 11th (10 performances) December 13th “DUNDEE 1975” December 14th + 15th (2 performances) December 16th: Glasgow performance ←★Here★ December 24th “A NIGHT AT THE ODEON (official)” In this way, the official work “A NIGHT AT THE ODEON” is the final day of the Christmas gig. This work was also the 24th concert just before that. This work recorded at such a show is a rare sound source that was said to be a phantom. Although its existence has been known for a long time, it has only been distributed among core collectors, and some people have been watching the name in the trade list for a long time with their fingers in their mouths. However, recently one of the core collectors has made it public. Finally, the chance to be widely heard has come. The sound of this work is truly vintage. To be honest, it cannot be denied that there is a slight distance, and there are scenes where the raw enthusiasm interrupts the performance. However, the master freshness is excellent. There is almost no twisting or disturbance of the tape, and there is very little hiss noise. The atmosphere that was floating in the Apollo Theater 47 years ago vividly blows out of the speakers. If you are familiar with the original sound that appeared on the Internet here, you may think, “Isn’t that too much praise?”, but there is a reason for that. Our unique mastering has been upgraded to make it much easier to listen to. Of course, noise such as hiss and hum has been processed, but even more importantly, it is mono. This is a common pattern in recordings from the 1970s, but this recording was originally mono. It was dubbed onto a stereo cassette and distributed. In such cases, the same sound is recorded on the left and right channels, but differences occur between the left and right channels due to long time and playback environment. This recording also had a deteriorated left channel in the original sound on the net, making it difficult to hear. Therefore, in this work, the left and right are aligned and completely mono. The deterioration of both channels is complemented by each other, achieving a sound with excellent stability. Such an upgraded sound is reminiscent of “A NIGHT AT THE ODEON” immediately after … not only that, but a completely different full show. In order to explain the meaning, let’s organize the set while comparing it here. Sheer Heart Attack (7 songs)・Flick Of The Wrist (★)/Killer Queen/Bring Back That Leroy Brown/Brighton Rock/Stone Cold Crazy (★)/In The Lap Of The Gods…Revisited/Now I’m Here Others (12 songs)・The Princess of Fear: Son And Daughter/Doing All Right (★)/Keep Yourself Alive/Liar・Queen II: Ogre Battle/White Queen (As It Began)/The March Of The Black Queen/Seven Seas Of Rhye・A Night At The Opera: Sweet Lady (★)/Bohemian Rhapsody/The Prophet’s Song (★)・Others: Big Spender *Note: The “★” mark indicates a song that could not be heard on the official album “A NIGHT AT THE ODEON: HAMMERSMITH 1975” … and so on. Unfortunately, recording for this album ended with “Big Spender”. (Although it is impossible to say for sure because there are no other recordings, it is likely) “Jailhouse Rock” was overlooked, but you can enjoy the whole view of the rest. The content is also quite different from “A NIGHT AT THE ODEON”, starting with “Ogre Battle” which was led to “Bohemian Rhapsody” from the opening. After that, numbers unique to this period such as “Sweet Lady” and “Doing All Right” are played one after another. Freddie seems a little tired because of the continuous night-and-day shows, but this is also a valuable historical evidence. It is a time machine album that allows you to witness the real sound of the British scene where the breakthrough was made and the heat was raised at once. It cannot be denied that it is a bit maniac, but that is why maniacs cannot avoid it. Vintage audience recording of “Glasgow performance on December 16, 1975”. It is a treasure master that was circulated among core collectors, and although it is a little distant, the master freshness is excellent. Furthermore, meticulous mastering has dramatically improved the ease of listening. Although it is a concert just before the official “A NIGHT AT THE ODEON”, you can enjoy plenty of songs that were not heard in the official work, such as “Flick Of The Wrist”, “Doing All Right”, “Sweet Lady”, and “The Prophet’s Song”.
