Description

The latest special program “AT THE BBC” has been very well received with the release of the Paul McCartney edition. The second installment, the QUEEN edition, has been decided to be released. This program is a masterpiece series that is currently a hot topic. It takes a bird’s-eye view of the careers of heroes by utilizing the secret masters of the BBC that have walked with rock. The QUEEN edition is the latest edition that was just broadcast on November 27, 2021, the week after the Paul edition. The taste is in the master quality unique to the original BBC, but the composition is also unique. Interviews are also inserted in between (I was surprised to see the “ROGER TAYLOR” caption on Freddie at the beginning, but it was probably a mistake in the broadcast at the time. Is it British-style sarcastic humor to reuse it as it is?), but most of the scenes are closed with performance scenes. Moreover, the content is rich. Although some promos are used, it is mostly footage of appearances on famous BBC programs such as “TOP OF THE POPS”, “THE OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST”, and “THE MONTREUX GOLDEN ROSE POP FESTIVAL”. The highlight is a “moving best album” of clips, but at the same time it is a musical journey that follows the “BBC and QUEEN’s journey”. And this work plays 12 treasures. It is not chronological but randomly arranged, but let’s summarize it by program here. TOP OF THE POPS (7 songs) 1974: Seven Seas Of Rhye (February) / Killer Queen (December) 1975: Bohemian Rhapsody (December) 1977: Good Old Fashioned Loverboy (June) / We Are The Champions (November) 1980: Another One Bites The Dust (September) 1982: Las Palabras De Amor (June) THE MONTREUX GOLDEN ROSE POP FESTIVAL (4 songs) 1984 June: I Want To Break Free / It’s A Hard Life 1986 August: One Vision / A Kind Of Magic Others (5 songs) Promo: Somebody To Love (1976) / Radio Ga Ga (1984) / Days Of Our Lives (1991) Others: Keep Yourself Alive (December 1975 OGWT) / Crazy Little Thing Called Love (December 1979 MAINSTREAM) … and so on. The Paul edition used a variety of footage, but about half of the QUEEN edition was “TOP OF THE POPS”. Next is “THE MONTREUX GOLDEN ROSE POP FESTIVAL”. First, “TOP OF THE POPS”. As you know, it is a program centered on mime performances in the station studio, so the colors of each era are richer than live performances. In “Seven Seas Of Rhye”, the station master has been lost, so a YouTube video of VHS is being used, but the rest of the video is full of the beauty of the master quality. Among them, the most interesting one is “Another One Bites The Dust” from 1980. QUEEN does not appear in this episode (laughs). There is only a female dancer dancing on a stage set that is probably made by the BBC. I don’t know if it was a schedule conflict or if QUEEN refused, but the aggressive broadcasting style is intense. “THE MONTREUX GOLDEN ROSE POP FESTIVAL” is also a standard rare video, but it’s nice to see it in master quality. They appeared twice, in the “THE WORKS” era and the “A KIND OF MAGIC” era, and both were concert-style with an audience, but the performance was mime. Freddie didn’t like mime either, so he deliberately took the microphone away and sang, or pointed it at the audience. It’s a funny video of a slightly sulky performance that deliberately emphasizes the lip-syncing. None of the footage is new to this work, and some of the songs have overlapping interviews. Although it’s not the best collection of materials, it’s more twisted than a PV collection and can be enjoyed as a “best album to see with your eyes”. A unique and exquisite video work that will turn the year-end and New Year holidays into QUEEN colors. The latest program that spells out their glorious career is released as a gift. This special Queen program by the prestigious British BBC will allow you to enjoy Queen’s performances on many famous TV shows, including TOP OF THE POPS and THE MONTREUX GOLDEN ROSE POP FESTIVAL.
