Diamonds & Pearls Tour started in Japan in 1992. This is a title that thoroughly investigates the rehearsal that took place just before that, both in video and audio. The original exists in the video, with Prince, Tony M, and others shouting “Tokio!” from beginning to end, and is it a general production at Tokyo Dome? You might think so, but this is actually a run-through rehearsal held at Paisley Park in Minneapolis. In fact, there are two kinds of photographs, each of which is thought to have been taken at approximately the same time, but one has no known date, and the other is known to have been taken on March 25th (Insatiable). (Because there are places where the date appears when Prince is shown on screen). Together they capture the entire stage and there are no close shots. Still, it is a very enjoyable video where you can enjoy Prince and the band’s dance, costume changes, and the splendor of the stage lightning. On the actual tour, Lively Up Yourself by Rosie Gaines preceded Willing And Able, an instrumental A Night In Tunisia preceded Insatiable, and Thieves In The Temple includes an Arabic instrumental intro, but these have not yet appeared. No. However, there are actually only two types of rehearsal videos that record the live performance completely in professional shots. In that sense, it can be said to be extremely valuable and important. First of all, the undated footage from March has a somewhat relaxed mood, with Prince laughing and singing during Gett Off. This video uses Camile master video, and the sound part is synchronized with a better sound source. And in the video from March 25th, the intro is included from the beginning, and the chant of Tokio is included, but there are also parts where it is called Yokohama. However, this video may be the one where you can feel the seriousness. Between songs, Prince makes the band laugh with his Maurice Dee voice. This kind of thing never happens when you’re on tour. On March 25th, the video part uses a better video master and audio different from Camile. However, the video and sound were distorted in Willing And Able and Nothing Compares 2 U, so I corrected it by porting the audio part from the Camile master for these two songs only. Camile’s video is a little close-up, but the image is blurry and lacks clarity, and the video used here has better color reproduction. Camile may have remastered the video, but the one used here seems to be closer to the original. Then, the audio portions from March and March 25th were recorded as they were on the CD, with the original audio corrected and remastered. Up until now, it was thought that there was only one type of title, and the only title with only the audio part had been released in March, and this is the first CD of two types of video that no one had touched. Tokyo! Therefore, Japanese fans will enjoy the fact that they can watch and listen to it as if they were visiting Japan, so be sure to get the must-see video and sound source of the D&P tour.
