Prince/Spain 11.24.1999 & Soundcheck

In 1999, Prince toured Europe to celebrate the milestone, including a gig in his then-wife, Mayte’s hometown, followed by a live performance at Prince’s Paisley Park. The one-off gig at Sala Aqualung on November 24, 1999, was Mayte’s Spanish performance. However, two masters were released at the time, both by Sabotage and Thunderball. However, the Sabotage recording suffered from poor mastering, while the Thunderball recording suffered from poor audio quality due to a pressing error, leaving the recording in a very unfortunate state. This time, we’ve resolved the issues on each release and combined the best parts to compile and release the ultimate live performance. This authentic live performance featured Larry Graham and the NPG Horns, featuring rare P-Funk tracks like “Mothership Connection,” a string of funk covers with Sly and JB, and Prince’s “Come On,” which had the audience thronging the stage, creating a frenzy that had them dancing all the way to JB’s final funk number, “Funky Good Time.” The set ended there, but Prince and NPG reappeared for the second half, singing everything from the amazing “The One” to a Santana cover, Prince classics, the Isley Brothers’ funk “Fight the Power” with its unique super groove, a one-of-a-kind arrangement of “Flash Light,” and the all-time favorite “Purple Rain”! This is arguably the best live performance of 1999. Sabotage and Thunderball, which recorded the 24th show, each included a rare soundcheck bonus, but these have now been remastered and compiled, along with audio from the related Septimo TV broadcast, creating a comprehensive compilation of this period’s performances.
